What comes to mind when I say to you “Italian craftsmanship?” Many things…other than food…the crafts of creating glass or working with leather, jewelry, furniture, marbled paper, masks … and we could go on for so long. Italians are so creative!
Oggi però vorrei parlarvi della ceramica e chiedero’ aiuto alla mia amica Ambra, che e’ una giovane artista di Firenze, una pittrice di ceramica. La lavorazione della ceramica e’ una tradizione della sua famiglia da tante generazioni. Il padre di Ambra le ha trasmesso sia la passione che anche la tecnica di questa arte cosi’ affascinante.
Today however I would like to talk to you about ceramics and I have asked the help of my friend Ambra, a young Florentine artist. Working in ceramics has been a family tradition in Ambra’s family for many years. Ambra’s father transferred to her the passion and also the technical skills of this fascinating art form.
Ambra non si limita a riprodurre disegni geometrici, fiori e frutta e gli altri elementi che tradizionalmente vengono usati per la decorazione della ceramica; lei cattura le immagini di Firenze nelle sue opere, per esempio mi ha colpito molto un dipinto del Ponte Vecchio su un vassoio. Che bello!
Ambra is not just limited to producing geometric designs, flowers and fruit, and other traditional designs that are used to decorate Italian ceramics; she also captures the images of Florence in her work, for example, a particular design of the Ponte Vecchio she painted on a tray caught my attention. How pretty!
Vorrei condividere con voi un breve video in cui Ambra racconta un po’ la sua storia e ci fa vedere proprio come si dipinge su ceramica. Guardate con che controllo e precisione lavora. Vorrei provare anch’io ma sono sicura che il risultato sarebbe diverso! Ecco Ambra per spiegarvi di più.
I would like to share with you a short video in which Ambra tells us her story and shows us how she paints her ceramics. Look at the precise control she has when she works. Io ci andro’ di sicuro a settembre con i nuovi amici che parteciperanno all’avventura “Studentessa Matta”. Le creazioni di Ambra sono speciali come lei. Sono contenta di avere una nuova amica che rende ancora piu’ unica una citta’ che per me e’ gia’ cosi’ appassionante. Non che me ne mancasse la voglia, ma ora ho un motivo in piu’ per fare un salto a Firenze!
I’m certainly going to visit her in September with my new friends who will accompany me on my next Studentessa Matta adventure. Ambra’s creations are as special as she is. I am happy to have a new friend and to have another reason to visit my favorite city. Not that I was lacking in reasons to go already, but now I have another reason to stop in Florence!
