You’ve just spent the last eight to ten hours on a flight bound for Italy. You’ve landed in Rome or Florence, collected your bags and are a bit exhausted but still euphoric that you’ve finally reached your destination!
Va bene. Ora cosa? Come uscite dal caos di un aeroporto italiano e raggiungete la vostra destinazione finale per iniziare e godere il vostro tempo in Italia? Ecco un manuale di sopravvivenza per orientarvi nell’infrastruttura italiana.
Okay. Now what? How do you exit the crazy confusion of an Italian airport and reach your ultimate destination and start enjoying your time in Italy? Here is a survival guide to navigating your way around the Italian infrastructure.

Arriving in Florence – Take the BRAND NEW tram from Peretola Airport to Florence City Center & Santa Maria Novella Train Station
Evviva! La tanto attesa Tramvia è finalmente qui collegando l’aeroporto di Firenze Peretola al centro. Il tram collega l’aeroporto di Firenze a Piazza Unità, proprio di fronte alla stazione di Santa Maria Novella (appena dietro la basilica di Santa Maria)
Hurray! The long-awaited Tramvia is finally here connecting Florence’s Peretola Airport to the City Center. The tram runs from the Florence’s Airport to Piazza Unità located just in front of Santa Maria Novella Train station (just behind the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella Church).
Il tram va dalle 5:00 alle 12:30 dalla Domenica al giovedì e fino alle 2 il venerdì e il sabato. I biglietti singoli costano 1,50 Euro. Ci sono delle macchine touch-screen automatich alle fermate dove potete comprare i biglietti. I biglietti del tram sono utili per 90 minuti.
The tram runs from 5 am to 12:30 am from Sunday to Thursday and until 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Single tickets cost 1.50 euro. There are automatic touch-screen machine at the stops where you can get tickets. Tram tickets are good for 90 minutes.
Come sempre in Italia: RICORDATE DI STAMPARE IL VOSTRO BIGLIETTO prima di salire su treno. Per convalidare il biglietto stampalo nelle macchinette verde (o giallo) macchinette situate sui binari. Altrimenti, verrete multato.
As always in Italy: REMEMBER TO STAMP YOUR TICKET before boarding a train. To validate your ticket stamp it in the little green (or yellow) machines located on the tracks. If not, you will be fined.

Dove trovarlo in città: Il capolinea “Unità” si trova al centro di Piazza Unità, la grande piazza di fronte alla stazione principale “Firenze Santa Maria Novella.” Lo troverete nel mezzo dell’ampio viale tra l’hotel Baglioni e la chiesa di Santa Maria Novella.
Where to find it in town: The terminus, “Unità,” is in the middle of Piazza Unità, the big roundabout/square in front of the main “Firenze Santa Maria Novella” train station. You’ll find it in the middle of the wide avenue between the Hotel Baglioni and the Santa Maria Novella church.
Dove trovarlo in Aeroporto: Facilissimo!!! Si trova proprio accanto al lato nord del termina, quindi è solo una passeggiata di 30 secondi. Per trovarlo dopo l’atterraggio, uscite all’aeroproto e svoltate a SINISTRA.
Where to find it at the airport: Easy! It’s located right next to the north side of the terminal, so it is only a 30-second walk. To find it after landing, exit the airport and turn LEFT.
Ulteriori informazioni: Alle fermate troverete una bacheca che indica l’ora della prossima partenza (circa ogni 4 minuti) e una mappa del percorso. Troverete due binari nel punto iniziale e finale della linea, per i tram che entrano ed escono, quindi andate tranquillamente su quello che c’è o è stato lì il più lungo.
Information: At the stops, you’ll find a message board indicating the time of the next departure (roughly every 4 minutes) as well as a map of the route. You’ll find two tracks at the start point and end point of the line, for trams coming in and going out, so just get on whichever one is there or has been there the longest.

Il principale aeroporto internazionale di Roma, noto anche come Aeroporto Leonardo da Vinci (FCO), si trova a 26 chilometri (16 miglia) fuori Roma. L’aeroporto prende il nome Fiumicino, dopo la città più vicina.
Rome’s major international airport, sometimes known as Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO), is 26 kilometers (16 miles) outside Rome. The airport tends to be referred to by its old name— Fiumicino, after the city it’s closest to.
Ci sono sia autobus che treni tra l’aeroporto e la stazione ferroviaria, ma la maggiore parte della gente, prende il treno espresso chiamato Leonardo Express. L’Express è prevedibile e funziona anche durante gli scioperi, sebbene un autobus possa essere sostituito dal treno.
There are both buses and trains between the airport and the train station but most take the express train named the Leonardo Express. The Express is predictable and even runs during strikes, although a bus may be substituted for the train.

Il treno espresso vi porterà dall’aeroporto internazionale di Roma alla stazione centrale di Roma Termini. Il costo a partire dal 2019 è Euro 14 a persona e il viaggio di 37 chilometri dura circa 32 minuti. Un Leonardo Express treno parte ogni mezz’ora in ogni direzione dalle sei del mattina alle 11 di sera.
The express train will shuttle you from Rome’s main international airport Fiumicino, to central Rome’s Termini train station. The cost as of 2019 is €14 per person and the 37-kilometer trip takes about 32 minutes. A Leonardo Express train leaves every half hour in each direction from about six in the morning to 11 at night.
Da Roma Termini Stazione: I treni per l’aeroporto partono alle 5:35 del mattino, con treni che partono ogni mezz’ora. L’ultimo treno della giornata parte alle 22.35

Dall’aeroporto di Roma Fiumicino: I treni per la stazione Termini partono alle 6:23 del mattino, con treni che partono ogni mezz’ora. L’ultimo treno della giornata parte alle 23.23.
From Rome’s Fiumicino International Airport: Trains to Central Termini Train Station start at 6:23 in the morning, with trains running each half-hour. The last train of the day departs at 23.23 (11:23 p.m.).
Acquisto di biglietti all’aeroporto
Buying Tickets at the Airport
Dopo aver ritirato i bagagli, seguite le indicazioni per Stazione FS / Stazione ferroviaria. Dovrete salire 2 piani per trovarlo. Ma è convenientemente situato all’interno dell’aeroporto.
After you’ve picked up your luggage, follow the signs to Stazione FS/Railway Station. You’ll have to go up 2 floors to find it. But, it’s conveniently located inside the airport.
Acquistate un biglietto “Per Termini” al banco dei biglietti FS or da una delle macchine nella stazione. Un biglietto costa Euro 14. È necessario convalidare il biglietto nella macchinetta prima di entrare nel treno.
Buy a ticket “Per Termini” at the FS ticket counter or from one of the machines in the station. The ticket costs €14. You must validate your ticket by inserting it into the validation machine before you enter the train.
