Ciao a tutti! Oggi vorrei parlarvi di una scuola a Firenze che penso vi interesserà. Si chiama Sunflower Florence ed è situata nel centro storico di Firenze, a pochi passi a piedi dalla stazione ferroviaria di Santa Maria Novella. E’ idealmente situata a solo due isolati dal Duomo e circa a tre minuti a piedi dal Palazzo Vecchio. La scuola si trova in una zona fantastica piena di negozi di alta moda e di gelaterie!
Hi guys! Today I want to talk to you about an Italian language school in Florence that I think will be of interest to you. It’s called Sunflower Florence and it is located in the historic center of Florence, within walking distance from the Santa Maria Novella train station. Really it is ideally situated just two blocks from the Duomo and about a three-minute walk from the Palazzo Vecchio. The school is located in a great area full of shops and ice cream parlors.
La mia amica Anna Andretta è una delle direttrici della scuola. Lei ha fondato la scuola con altri colleghi, che sono anche amici, che ha una filosofia d’apprendimento che io trovo molto bella. My friend Anna Andretta is one of the directors of the school. She founded the school with other colleagues who are also friends and they have a philosophy of learning that I find very beautiful. Like me, they think that learning a language requires you to go outside the classroom to experience the language in real-life cultural settings and by getting to know real Italians. If you are having fun, you are learning!
Sì, certo, è importante memorizzare parole e grammatica, ma per ricordare la lingua in modo efficace, è meglio utilizzarla in un modo più creativo e interessante. Ad esempio, se ti piace degustare il vino, o cucinare o fare escursioni di storia dell’arte, non c’è modo migliore per imparare la lingua che avere una lezione d’italiano mentre stai facendo queste attività piacevoli. In questo modo puoi capire meglio nuove parole, frasi e grammatica, mentre stai imparando di più delle sfumature della cultura italiana. Ascoltando un insegnante fuori dall’aula, in una situazione quotidiana e reale, avrai più contesto e migliorerai l’assorbimento della lingua. Invece di studiare situazioni ipotetiche potrai “vivere” la lingua attraverso lezioni divertenti che coinvolgono la mente e le mani (e nel caso dell’arte – gli occhi!).

For example, if you like wine tasting or cooking, or perhaps art-history excursions, there is no better way to learn the language than having an Italian lesson while you are doing an enjoyable activity. This way you can better understand new words, phrases, and grammar points while you are learning about cultural nuances. Listening to a teacher outside the classroom, in an everyday situation, you will have more context and enhance your retention. Instead of studying hypothetical situations by “living” the language through fun lessons that involve your mind and your hands (and in the case of art history – the eyes!).
