Buoni propositi e riflessioni – New Year’s Resolutions and reflections

Devo dirvi che 2014 è stato un’anno incredibile per me. Mentre scrivo quest ultimo post dell’anno, sono piuttosto emozionata e la mia testa sta girando per tutto quello che è successo durante gli ultimi dodici mesi. È stato un anno strapieno di viaggi, nuovi incontri, e tante altre cose inaspettate che hanno arricchito la mia vita. Ecco alcuni dei punti salienti dell’anno della Matta.

I have to say that 2014 has been an amazing year for me. As I sit down to write my last post of the year, I am overcome with emotions and my head is spinning from all that has transpired during the past 12 months. It has been a year filled with travel, meeting new friends, and many unexpected things that have enriched my life. Here are some of the highlights from la Matta’s year!

Il 2014 è iniziato con una bella sorpresa – ho ricevuto un invito a scrivere un guest post per Transparent Language.” A partire da quello, ci sono state altre richieste per guest post durante l’anno per altri blog come, “Charming Italy”, “italki”, “Savoring Italy” (Lora aka Cake Duchess), “Prayers and Piazzas” (Stacy d’ Anna) and “Not Just Another Dolce Vita” (SarahMastroianni)

2014 began with a bang with an invitation to write a guest post for Transparent Language. It lead to further guest posts throughout the year, including among them posts for “Charming Italy”, “italki”, “Savoring Italy” (Lora aka Cake Duchess), “Prayers and Piazzas” (Stacy d’ Anna), and “Not Just Another Dolce Vita” (Sarah Mastroianni).

Nel mese di gennaio sono entrata nel mondo di Podcasting con  Cher Hale del “Iceberg Project”. Insieme abbiamo registrato sei episodi di “Le Pazze Ragazze”, in cui abbiamo parlato della lingua italiana e le feste italiane.

In January I entered the world of Podcasting with Cher Hale of the “Iceberg Project”. Together we recorded six episodes of “Le Pazze Ragazze” in which we explored Italian Language and Italian Holidays”.

Nel febbraio del 2014 il Matta Blog è stato selezionato da Italy Magazine come uno dei top 6 migliori Blog d’Arte e della Cultura del 2013. (Grazie a tutti gli amici che mi sostengono e alla gente a Italy Magazine).

In February of 2014, the Matta Blog was selected by Italy Magazine as one of the top 6 Best Art & Culture Blogs of 2013. (Thanks to all the friends who support my blog and to Italy Magazine!).

A Marzo ho partecipato nel language learning seminar “Fluent Forever” di Gabriel Wyner, che ha durato due giorni a San Francisco. È stato bello conoscere Gab di persona e parlare con lui delle sue tecniche dell’apprendimento delle lingue.

In March I participated in Gabriel Wyner’s 2-day “Fluent Forever” Language Learning Seminar. It was great getting to know Gab in person and discussing with him his technics of language learning.

Nel mese di aprile il Matta Twitter Feed è stato riconosciuto come modello per l’apprendimento della lingua da Bab.la e Lexiophiles.

In April The Matta Twitter Feed was recognized as a top language learning feed by Bab.la and Lexiophiles.

Nel mese di giugno ho vissuto in Toscana a Lucca per due settimane e ho studiato con un gruppo divertente di “Matta” studenti in collaborazione con Lucca Italian School Gli insegnanti della Lucca Italian School ed io ci siamo divertiti così tanto, che abbiamo deciso di ripetere l’esperienza “Matta Language Workshop” a settembre 2015.

In June I lived in Tuscany in Lucca for two weeks and studied with a group of delightful “Matta” language learners in collaboration with Lucca Italian school. The teachers at Lucca Italian School and I had so much fun, we are repeating the “Matta Language Workshop” in September 2015.

Nel 2014 oltre alle Homestay Vacation di Lucia Dezuani a Lago Maggiore, ho fatto due nuove collaborazioni per Home Stay in Italia con Monica Ceserato a Venezia e con Elenia Arezio a Bergamo. Tutti i Homestay sono disponibili attraverso il blog.

In 2014 in addition to Lucia’s Homestay Language Vacation in Lago Maggiore, I have formed TWO new collaborations for Italian Homestays with Monica Ceserato in Venezia, and Elenia in Bergamo. All Homestays are available through the blog.

In agosto ho fatto il primo passo per realizzare un podcast da sola con “Tutti Matti per l’Italiano” per praticare la pronuncia, per presentare a un madrelingua che parla di argomenti interessanti e per approfondire la conoscenza della lingua e della cultura.

In August I took the plunge and began my own solo podcast “Tutti Matti per l’Italiano” to practice pronunciation skills and to bring you native speakers talking about interesting subjects, in order to delve deeper into the Italian Language and Culture.

A settembre sono tornata in Italia e durante il mio soggiorno ho incontrato a Roma Lucrezia Oddone in persone, quella di “Learn Italian with Lucrezia” e Clair of “Runaway Daydreamer”, così come tanti altri amici.

In September I traveled back to Italy and during my stay I met in Rome in person Lucrezia Oddone of “Learn Italian with Lucrezia” and Clair of “Runaway Daydreamer”, as well as many other Italian friends.

Durante il viaggio a settembre ho esplorato le colline umbre e ho vissuto nella “Casa Bruciata”. Ho anche visitato le Marche e Urbino per la prima volta, una regione d’Italia in cui non avevo mai messo piede prima. Ho anche incontrato le mie partner nelle Marche, Nadia Sparapani e Luisa Donati di Palazzo Donati.

During my September trip, I explored the hills of Umbria and lived in “La Casa Bruciata”. I also visited Le Marche & Urbino, a region of Italy I had never set foot in before. I also met my partners in le Marche Nadia Sparapani and Luisa Donati of Palazzo Donati.

Nel settembre 2014 è stato un grande piacere incontrare Dianne Hales mentre presentava il suo nuovo libro “Mona Lisa, A Life Discovered” a presso l’Emporio Armani a San Francisco.

In September 2014 I enjoyed meeting up with Dianne Hales and listening to her as she presented her new book “Mona Lisa A Life Discovered” at Emporio Armani in San Francisco.

Durante l‘autunno del 2014 sono stata chiesta da Laura Morelli di unirmi ai suoi Book Tour virtuali, scrivendo recensioni dei libri che si svolge in Italia, con tema italiano, scritti da un autore italiano o tradotto da italiano.

During the fall of 2014 I was asked by Laura Morelli to join her Virtual Italy Book Tours, reviewing books that are set in Italy, have an Italian theme, are written by an Italian author, or translated from Italian.

Ad ottobre 2014 mi sono unita con Kelly Medford, la mia cara amica e artista americana che abita a Roma, per collaborare con lei su un programma d’arte e di lingue (a Roma) anche con la scuola Scud’It. Il programma è previsto per giugno 2015.

In October 2014 I joined forces with Kelly Medford, my great friend and American artist in Rome to collaborate on an Art and Language program in Rome along with the Italian School Scud’It. Our program is scheduled for June 2015.

Colonna sonora per il podcast: “Tutti matti per l’italiano!”

Nel novembre 2014 ho collaborato con un cantautore e la mia amica Gloria Acerboni una cantate italiana, per comporre una colonna sonora per il mio podcast “Tutti Matti per l’Italiano“. La canzone è intitolata: “Vivi, sorridi, divertiti”.

In November 2014 I collaborated with a singer and a songwriter and my friend Gloria Acerboni, an Italian singer, in creating a theme song for my Podcast “Tutti Matti per l’Italiano.” The song is entitled: “Vivi, sorridi, divertiti”. 

Nel mese di dicembre, per mezzo di questo blog, ho ricevuto il regalo più speciale di tutti…sto ospitando una giovane ragazza da Lecce a casa mia per due mesi. Due anni fa sono stata invitata da Ylenia Sambati per collaborare con lei al primo “Matta” Language & Cultural Workshop. È stato un successo e così sono tornata l’anno seguente per un altro Language Workshop in Puglia. Durante quel periodo ho incontrato Marta che stava finendo il liceo. Abbiamo stretto una bella amicizia e l’ho invitata a casa mia per un breve periodo per una esperienza di vivere all’estero. Lei ha accettato l’invito e sarà con me da questo momento fino a febbraio 2015. È un grande piacere avere Marta con me. Ci divertiamo molto e ci aiutiamo con l’inglese e l’italiano e continuiamo ad approfondire la nostra conoscenza della cultura di entrambi i nostri paesi.

In December 2014, by means of this blog, I have had the most special gift of all…hosting a young girl from Lecce in my home for 2 months. Two years ago I was invited by Ylenia Sambati to collaborate with her on the first “Matta” Language & Cultural Workshop in Puglia. It was a big success, so I returned the following year to Puglia for a second Matta Language Workshop and met Marta who was just finishing high school. We formed a friendship and I invited her into my home for an experience of living abroad. She accepted the invite and is with me right now until February 2015. It is a great pleasure to have Marta with me. We are enjoying each other’s company and we help each other with English and Italian and continue to broaden our knowledge of each other’s culture.

2014 è stato un anno fantastico. Sono sbalordita quando mi rendo conto che nessuna di queste avventure che ho avuto quest’anno sarebbero accadute, se cinque anni fa non avessi deciso di aprire un blog per condividere con voi il mio amore per l’Italia. Grazie a tutti per essere una parte del mio percorso d’apprendimento. Grazie per viaggiare con me nello spirito, come per la fiducia di viaggiare con me di persona in Italia per scoprire un altro lato dell’Italia che si vede solo con gli amici e gli Italiani locali come guide. Sono grata a tutti voi per i vostri “Likes”, i vostri commenti, il vostro amore ed il vostro sostegno.

2014 has been an amazing year. I am in awe when I realize that none of the amazing adventures that I have had this year would have transpired if five years ago I hadn’t opened a blog to share with you all my love for Italy. Thank you one and all for being a part of my language learning journey. Thank you for traveling with me in spirit, as well as trusting me and traveling with me in person to Italy to discover a side of Italy that you only see with friends and local Italians as your guides. I am grateful to each and every one of you! Thank you for your “likes”, your comments, your love & your support.

Adesso, penso al 2015 ed all’anno nuovo! Ecco i miei buoni propositi.

Now, my thoughts turn to 2015 and the year ahead!
Here are my resolutions:

Ogni giorno cercherò e continuerò ad essere ispirata dagli altri che condividono il loro amore per l’Italia attraverso i loro blog e podcast.

Each day I will seek out and continue to be inspired by others who share their love of Italy through their blogs and podcasts.

Continuerò a fare nuovi programmi per i workshop per imparare l’italiano in Italia

I will continue to make new plans for future language workshops and travels in Italy!

Condividerò nuove idee per l’apprendimento e anche i tanti modi possiamo apprezzare e per scoprire più l’Italia, un paese che sta lottando per ritrovare se stesso, ma che merita tutto il nostro sostegno e ammirazione.

I will share new ideas and ways to study Italian, as well as the many ways to appreciate and discover more about Italy, a country that is struggling to redefine itself but who deserves our support and admiration.

Ho cominciato il 2014 con una mente aperta e più o meno gli stessi buoni propositi dell’anno scorso), quindi posso solo immaginare che il 2015 sarà parimenti un’anno pieno di sorprese inpensate. Non vedo l’ora di vedere come l’anno si svilupperà e dove mi porterà! Ma posso assicurarvi, qualunque cosa succederà, che continuerò con i miei studi linguistici, starò in contatto con i cari amici e ne farò di nuovi. Ma il sogno che ho tenuto in cassetto fino ad adesso…sto scrivendo un romanzo che ho intenzione di completare nel 2015! 

I began 2014 with an open mind and pretty much these same resolutions, so I can only anticipate 2015 will be another year of unimaginable surprises. I can’t wait to see how the year will play out and where it will take me! I can assure you that no matter what happens, I will be continuing my language studies, staying in touch with dear friends, as well as making new ones. But the big thing that I have been keeping under my hat…I am writing a novel that I hope to complete in 2015!
