Let’s start with Arezzo!
Aezzo is a place I like to call home away from home, and where the June 2023 Studentessa Matta Program will occur from June 11 – 23, 2023.
Arezzo è città che non ti deluderà mai. È piena di bellezza, storia e cultura italiana da scoprire. Immagina di passeggiare per le sue strade acciottolate, circondato da antichi palazzi e torri medievali, con il profumo del caffè fresco e del cornetti appena sfornato che si diffonde nell’aria.
Arezzo is a city that will never disappoint you. It is full of beauty, history, and Italian culture waiting to be discovered. Imagine walking through its cobbled streets, surrounded by ancient palaces and medieval towers, with the scent of fresh coffee and freshly baked pastries wafting through the air.
Arezzo non è solo bella, è anche vivace e piena di vita! Ha tante gemme nascoste che aspettano di essere scoperte, dagli splendidi affreschi della Basilica di San Francesco, all’anfiteatro romano, alle viste panoramiche dalla Fortezza Medicea. Ci sono mercati colorati, negozi unici, caffè accoglienti e il parco vicino al Duomo dove è possibile sedersi e guardare la gente. E non dimenticare la cucina! Arezzo è famosa per la sua deliziosa cucina toscana, come la tagliata al rosmarino e tutti i piatti di pasta fresca che faremo con lo chef Lala che vi farà venire l’acquolina in bocca.
Arezzo is not only beautiful, but it is also full of life! It has many hidden gems waiting to be discovered, from the stunning frescoes of the Basilica di San Francesco, the Roman amphitheater, and the panoramic views of the Medici Fortress. There are colorful markets, unique shops, cozy cafes, and the park near the Duomo, where you can sit and people-watch. And don’t forget the cooking! Arezzo is famous for its delicious Tuscan cuisines, such as thinly sliced steak with rosemary and all the fresh pasta dishes we will make with Chef Lala that will make your mouth water.
Arezzo sa anche far festa! La città ospita varie feste ed eventi durante tutto l’anno, ma è meglio conosciuto per il torneo cavalleresco medievale, la Giostra del Saracino. Se venite con me ad Arezzo, avrete degli ottimi posti per assistere all’evento in Piazza Grande.
Arezzo also knows how to party! The town hosts various festivals and events throughout the year but is best known for the medieval jousting tournament, the Giostra del Saracino. If you come with me to Arezzo, you will have great seats to watch the event in Piazza Grande.

Let me tell you about Lucca, where you will find la Studentessa Matta at the end of the summer, August 24 – September 2, 2023.
Lucca, la città fortificata le cui mura la circondano come un abbraccio protettivo, è un luogo incantevole per imparare l’italiano. A Lucca bici e gelato vanno di pari passo. Potrete passeggiare lungo la cima delle mura di Lucca o noleggiare un risciò o una bicicletta mentre vi godete la vista panoramica sui tetti di tegole rosse della città e sulle pittoresche strade e poi un delizioso gelato da una delle tante gelaterie della città.. Cosa non c’è da AMARE di Lucca? È una cittadina di musica, la patria di Puccini, e dove studiò Andrea Bocelli.
Lucca, the fortified city whose walls surround it as a protective embrace, is an enchanting place to learn Italian. In Lucca, bikes and ice cream go hand in hand. You can walk along the top of the walls of Lucca or rent a rickshaw or a bicycle while enjoying the panoramic view over the city’s red-tiled roofs and picturesque streets, and then have a delicious gelato from one of the city’s many gelaterie. What isn’t there to LOVE about Lucca? It is a city of music, the home of Puccini, and where Andrea Bocelli studied.
Da sempre un paradiso per i buongustai, Lucca vanta una ricca tradizione gastronomica che comprende abbondanti zuppe di farro, pasta fatta a mano e deliziosi dolci. Da non perdere Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, una piazza circolare costruita su un antico anfiteatro romano. Da non perdere anche la visita alla splendida Cattedrale di San Martino, con il suo imponente campanile e l’intricata facciata in marmo, o la salita alla cima della Torre Guinigi, con il suo albero iconico che cresce sulla cima.

Where else would you want to experience the grape harvest in Montepulciano, nestled in the heart of Tuscan wine country? Mid-September, you will find la Studentessa in Montepulciano from September 10-22, 2023.
