Durante il mese di ottobre, ogni settimana ho pubblicato una parola o un’espressione combinato con un’immagine sulla pagina di Facebook di Studentessa Matta. Queste sono parole casuali che mi sono imbattuto durante la lettura o che ho sentito nei film che ho trovato utile e degno di essere evidenziato.
During the month of October, every week I posted a word or an expression combined with an image on the Studentessa Matta Facebook page. These are random words that I came across while reading or that I heard in movies that I found useful and worth highlighting.

Una lettrice del “Matta” blog mi ha scritto per chiedermi se sarebbe possibile includerere l’audio della pronuncia delle parole di Ottobre. Sono contenta di accontentarl! Penso che il tuo suggerimento sia fantastico. Subito dopo aver letto il tuo messaggio le ruote del mio cervello cominciavano a girare e ho deciso di fare una registrazione in cui pronuncio la parola “protagonista” e le frasi in cui sono usate.
A reader of the “Matta” blog wrote to me today and asked if it would be possible to include the audio of how to pronounce the words for October. I’m happy to accommodate her. I thought her suggestion was great. Immediately after reading her message the wheels in my brain started turning and I decided to make this short video in which I pronounce the featured words and the phrases in which they are used.

Feritoia
Il mese scorso ho imparato la parola Feritoia ad Ascoli nelle March mentre stavo attraversando l’antico ponte romano costruito da Cesare che colma uno di fiumi che circondano la città. Puoi anche camminare all’interno del ponte lungo un corridoio illuminato da feritoie nel muro di pietra.
Last month I learned the word Feritoia in Ascoli in Le Marche as I was walking across the ancient Roman Bridge built by Cesar that spans one of the rivers that surrounds the city. You can also walk inside the bridge through a passageway that is illuminated by narrow slits in the stone wall.
FERITOIA = slit, slot, narrow opening for military use or to let in light
Dalle FERITOIE della torre gli arcieri erano pronti a tirare. / From the castle tower’s narrow slots, archers were ready to shoot.
Dalla FERITOIA della cantina entrò un raggio di luce. / A ray of light beamed through the narrow opening in the cellar.

Spiffero / Spifferare
SPIFFERO = a draft of air
Uno SPIFFERO di aria viene dalla FERITOIA del castello.
A draft of air is blowing in from the castle’s narrow window.

Del matrimonio non avevo detto niente a nessuno, per scaramanzia.
I didn’t tell anybody about the wedding out of superstition.
Si racconta che la famosa diva vi riservava sempre per scaramanzia la stanza 220.
They say the famous movie star always reserved room number 220 out of superstition.
Alcuni pensano di evitare questi rischi con la scaramanzia, altri attraverso un comportamento razionale e attento.
Some people hope to avoid these risks with superstition, others with rational and careful behavior.
