I wanted to update you all regarding the 2021 Arezzo Language Immersion Program

I’ve just had word from Roberto Turchi, an official in the Santo Spirito quartiere, that due to Covid and the slow rollout of the vaccine in Italy, the June Giostra in Arezzo has been moved to late August. Roberto (pictured next to me in the above photo) tells me the plan now is to hold two jousts in Arezzo back to back — one at the end of August and the other during the customarily scheduled first Sunday in September.

I’ve discussed this turn of events with Paola Testi, my partner and the director of the Cultura Italiana Italian Language school in Arezzo and we’ve decided also to move our program to the end of August.

Drum roll please…

The new dates for our 2021 program are now:

Sunday, August 29 – Thursday, September 10, 2021.

The Matta Language program remains the same, with the same language classes held at Cultura Italiana, special excursions, and hands-on activities. By moving our program to the end of August, we hope that our group can still participate in the pageantry and the excitement surrounding Arezzo’s jousting festival. It is our hope that we will also be able to watch the joust in person in the stands in the piazza. Given the new rules for social distancing, however, we are remaining flexible, and if we can’t participate in the piazza, we will organize a special viewing just for our group in a private local.

We are flexible and we hope you are too! So, please join us at the end of August for another exciting joust and language learning immersion experience in Arezzo!

  1. Ciao Melissa,
Grazie mille per il “update”. Mi interessa il viaggio a Lucca in settembre. Hai idea di cosa succedera con questo viaggio?

  2. Mi dispiace…I hit send too fast! Thank you again! I love your blog and all your content. Been following you for a long time while I drift in and out of studying Italian. I really want to do the trip to Lucca but concerned of course.
    Thanks again,
    Jackie

    1. Ciao Jackie! Che piacere sentirti! It is so nice to hear from you. You made my day!

Thank you for your interest in the Matta blog! I’m so glad you are following along and learning Italian pian piano!

In answer to your question about the 2021 Italian Immersion Matta Programs… I am optimistic and moving ahead with both programs!

I’m planning on being in Italy in Arezzo and Lucca in September. All the folks who signed up for the 2020 programs didn’t cancel – just postponed – and they are just waiting for the moment when we can all return and resume the programs in 2021.

At the moment I have 1 student signed up for the Arezzo 2021 program and 5 people signed up for the Lucca 2021 program.

We are all moving ahead and proceeding as the way opens. In six months time, with the arrival of the vaccine I believe we will be able to travel to Italy again.

If you’d like to chat about the program in person, I’d be more than happy to set up a time to get to know you and discuss the programs.

      A presto! Melissa
