At the moment I’m in Italy in Arezzo with my 2022 June Italian Immersion Group and we are having a wonderful time!
I will be returning to Italy at the end of August to guide the next 2022 Matta Lucca program with Lucca Italian School.

I’m thrilled to let you know that I will be returning to Lucca at the end of August 2022 with a small group of students to study and explore the city and surrounding area. In September 2021, I had such a wonderful time with my group and the teachers at Lucca Italian School, and can’t wait to repeat the experience again! Here is your chance to join me.

The program will occur at the end of August. I have selected the dates of August 25th until September 3rd, 2022. The program will be ten days and nine nights and is suitable for all language levels. The cost of the program is $4,150. Read on to learn all the things we will do and see during our stay in Lucca next fall.

The “Matta” Lucca Italian program just happens to end the weekend of the jousting festival in Arezzo. For those participants who would like to continue to travel with me to Arezzo on September 3, I have designed a special “2-Day Add-On Arezzo Jousting Package” so that you too, can experience Arezzo’s medieval Giostra del Saracino, have a city tour, participate in the neighborhood celebratory dinner and attend the joust on September 4th. (Please note: The cost of the 2-day weekend Arezzo Jousting Package is not included in the Lucca Program price.

The 2-Day/2-Night Weekend Arezzo Jousting Package includes: Accommodations in a charming B&B in the historic center, Tickets to the “Cena Propriziatoria” the neighborhood celebratory dinner Saturday night, Tickets to attend the joust on Sunday, a City tour with Melissa & chance to watch the costume parades.

Immersing in language and culture and traveling with like-minded individuals is a great way to learn the language in a relaxed and friendly environment. My friends and teachers at Lucca Italian School in Lucca and I are planning an exciting language and cultural program in the delightful town situated west of Florence and near to Pisa.

2022 Program Enrollment
Highlights of the 2022 program will include participation in a cooking class with Eva, and a wine tasting excursion into the hills surrounding Lucca. We will discover all the town has to offer, as well as visit neighboring attractions such as Villa Reale and the town of Volterra. We will attend a Puccini Concert, participate in a relaxing art project, visit a local artisan, bike the walls of Lucca. Best of all we will immerse in the Italian language through lively dinner conversations with teachers, friends, and your hostess and crazy language guide — Melissa!
There will also be wine tastings, guided walking tours of the city to see artisan shops and churches, as well as free time to shop and even bike the walls of Lucca. Most evening meals are programmed but there are also several free choice evenings as well. You will have formal class time as well as unlimited Italian conversation practice with me, my Italian friends, and the teachers who accompany us throughout the program.
The 2022 Lucca Program will consist of 10 Days & 9 Nights in Lucca, 5 Class days (20 Hours of Italian Instruction), Unlimited Italian Conversation Practice with Melissa and the teachers at Lucca Italian School, 6 Group Dinners, Welcome Dinner, Art Class, Wine tasting, Visit an artisan shop, Cooking class, Accommodation at the charming San Martino Hotel, located around the corner from the Duomo in the heart of town and a 15-minute walk to the school. Each room is air-conditioned, has fast WIFI, and breakfast is included in the hotel’s cozy dining area or on their patio. The program includes an excursion to Volterra, Villa Reale, and free afternoons to wander and shop.

All levels of language learners are welcome! Students will be placed in appropriate classes according to their language levels along with other International students attending Lucca Italian School. All classes at Lucca Italian School feature a mix of grammar instruction, as well as Italian Culture, designed to take each student to the next level of speaking and comprehension.
Accommodations
We will be staying at La Dependance di San Martino a 3-star hotel in the heart of Lucca’s historic center, near San Martino, Lucca’s Duomo. The Dependance is a free-standing structure that is a part of the San Martino Hotel’s complex. It is located next door to the hotel and has its own entrance. We will take breakfast on the terrace of the Hotel San Martino Hotel or inside the main hotel. If you would like to arrive a day or two early in Lucca before the program begins or remain past the program dates in the Dependance or the Hotel, please let Melissa know and she will check room availability

2022 “Matta” Lucca Italian School Program Price: $4,150
Thursday, August 25 – Saturday, September 3rd
Availability is based on first-come-first-served & a reservation is not guaranteed until the receipt of deposit or full trip payment. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your reservation. Accepting reservations until June 26, 2022. (After this date, you can still sign up for the program, but we can’t guarantee accommodations at the Hotel San Martino. We will help find alternative housing options, but there may be a small price variation.)
The balance of the trip fee will be due approximately 60 days before the program start date (6/26/2022). You may also pay the full trip fee at the time of booking. To book with peace of mind and to safeguard your trip investment, in the case of a personal emergency or a family life event that might prevent you from departing for Italy, you may want to consider purchasing travel insurance through agencies such as Travel Guard, AAA or American Express. (Melissa is happy to coordinate shared transportation from Florence or Rome nearer to the trip start date once she has everyone’s flight schedules. She will also coordinate a shared group van back to Florence and Rome at the end of the program. Group or private transport to Lucca in a hired van will be out of the pocket expense.)

Transport to Lucca: Lucca is situated between Pisa and Florence. Either airport is convenient and trains run frequently between the two cities on an hourly basis. Melissa is also happy to coordinate shared transportation from Florence or Rome nearer to the trip start date once she has everyone’s flight schedules. She will also coordinate a shared group van back to Florence or Pisa (even Rome) at end of the program. Group or private transport to Lucca in a hired van will be out of the pocket expense.
