Se siete mai stati a Roma in estate, sicuramente avete fatto una passeggiata lungo la riva del fiume Tevere al tramonto. È un luogo molto movimentato, vivace e allegro. Ideale sia per gli abitanti della città che per i turisti, per rilassarsi un po’ e per trovare sollievo dal caldo della giornata. A partire da giugno ogni anno fino a settembre, il Lungotevere dal Ponte Sublicio a Ponte Sisto, è impreziosito da presentazione, esposizioni, mostre, istallazioni, musicisti e gallerie d’arte a cielo aperto.

Inoltre c’è una grande varietà di ristoranti e bar. La gente può fare acquisti, giocare o semplicemente sedersi e rilassarsi mentre beve uno Spritz con gli amici. Da un posto meraviglioso accanto al fiume si può guardare il sole che lentamente affonda dietro la sfilata dei ponti che attraversano il Tevere.

If you have ever been to Rome in the summer you surely have walked along the waterfront of the Tiber river at dusk. It is a happening place! It is an ideal spot for both city dwellers and tourists alike to hang out and enjoy a bit of respite from the heat of the day. Starting in June each year until September, the Lungotevere from Ponte Sublicio to Ponte Sisto, is embellished with presentations, expositions, shows, installations, musicians, and open-air art galleries.

There is also a wide variety of restaurants and bars represented. Folks can shop, play games, or just sit back and relax and while drinking a Spritz with good friends. From this choice spot next to the river one can watch the sun slowly sink behind the parade of bridges that cross over the Tiber river.

Il Lungotevere, che è stato in parte ispirato dal ampio viale che costeggia la Senna a Parigi, non è sempre esisto. È stato creato solo nel 1875. Molte persone pensano che il fascino della città sia stato alterato con costruzione delle mura chiamate “muraglioni” che ora definiscono lo spazio lungo il Tevere.

The Lungotevere, which was in part inspired by and resembles the wide boulevard that flanks the Seine River in Paris, didn’t always exist. It was more recently created in 1875. Many suggest that some of the city’s charm was removed with the erection of massive walls called “muraglioni” that now contain the space along the Tiber.

Se da un lato le mura ora aiutano ad eliminare le alluvioni, dall’altro la costruzione ha causato la demolizione di edifici artisticamente e storicamente importanti che erano lì prima. Da questo acquerello, dipinto da Ettore Roesler Franze del Tevere da Ponte Sisto rivolto a nord prima della costruzione del Lungotevere, si può solo immaginare come la città sarebbe potuto essere, se la passeggiata non fosse stata costruita.

While the walls now help to eliminate flooding, the construction caused the demolition of artistically and historically significant buildings that had previously flanked the river. La città può avere perso una parte della sua bellezza con la costruzione del Lungotevere, ma ha anche acquistato una certa bellezza che i cittadini certamente stanno utilizzando durante le calde notti estive romane!

This I can personally guarantee! Just a few weeks ago, together with my group of adventurous students, we spent a fantastic evening on the Lungotevere where we arrived after an art lesson in the late afternoon.

Questo posso garantirlo personalmente! Solo poche settimane fa, io insieme con il mio gruppo di avventurosi studenti, abbiamo passato una serata fantastica sul Lungotevere dove siamo arrivati dopo una lezione d’arte nel tardo pomeriggio.

The city may have lost some of its beauty with the construction of the Lungotevere, but it has also acquired a certain beauty that citizens are certainly using during the hot Roman summer nights!

Ci siamo rilassati e abbiamo bevuto un cocktail prima di fermarci in un ristorante all’aperto accanto il bar. Il locale era ideale per incontrarsi con gli amici romani e per chiacchierare prima di andare nella Piazza San Cosimato in Trastevere per vedere un film all’aperto. Sicuramente una notte da ricordare accanto al Tevere e sotto le stelle di Roma!

We relaxed and drank a cocktail before stopping at an open-air restaurant next to the bar. The place was ideal for meeting with Roman friends and for chatting before going to Piazza San Cosimato in Trastevere to see a movie outdoors. Definitely, a night to remember alongside the Tiber and under the stars of Rome!
