Lucrezia Oddone is making waves on the internet

Oggi sono molto lieta di presentarvi la mia amica Lucrezia Oddone. Questa giovane studentessa italiana sta facendo “le onde” su internet con i suoi video divertenti, ideati per insegnare l’italiano. Dico “smuovendo le acque” in senso molto positivo. Lei sta smuovendo le cose per rendere l’apprendimento dell’italiano divertente. Lei è solare e vivace e i suoi video sono istruttivi. Seguendo Lucrezia, sentirete un accento italiano vero. Ci offre uno sguardo sulla vita italiana quotidiana molto affascinante, portandoci per esempio in un supermercato a fare la spesa e addirittura ci presenta il suo cucciolo Pongo, mentre ci insegna modi di dire, le distinzioni più sottili tra “ci” e “ne”  e altre regole italiana. Today I am very pleased to present to you my friend Lucrezia Oddone. This young Italian student is making waves on the internet with her fun Youtube videos designed to teach you Italian. I say “making waves” in the most positive sense of the word. She is shaking things up to make learning Italian a lot of fun. She is delightful and lively and her videos are quite informative. Following her, you will hear a native Italian accent. She presents us with a true slice of Italian life that is quite charming, for example taking us on a trip to an Italian grocery store as she shops for food and even introduces us to her puppy “Pongo”, as she teaches us the finer distinctions between “ci” and “ne”, fun Italian idioms and Italian grammar. Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Lucrezia, ho 21 anni (tra pochi giorni 22!) e sono italiana, precisamente di Roma. Studio lingue per interpreti e traduttori all’università di Trieste e mi è capitato più di una volta di dover insegnare l’inglese e perciò, un anno fa circa, ho pensato che sarebbe stata una bella idea insegnare su internet, attraverso un blog in cui postare le lezioni. Ovviamente non potevo che insegnare una lingua, visto anche il mio percorso di studi. Però di persone che insegnano inglese agli italiani su internet ce ne sono tante, perciò ho pensato di fare il contrario, ovvero insegnare l’italiano agli anglofoni e ovviamente a tutti coloro che volessero seguire le mie lezioni!

Hi everyone, my name is Lucrezia and I’m 21 years old (in just a few days I’ll be 22!) and I am Italian, to be precise an Italian from Rome. I study languages for interpreters and translators at the University of Trieste. During my time at university on several occasions, I have had to teach a few English courses, and so about a year ago I had this great idea to teach through a blog where I could post lessons on the internet. Obviously, I couldn’t teach a language, since I am still quite busy with my own studies. But because there are lots of people that teach English to Italians on the Internet, I thought I’d do the opposite, namely to teach Italian to English speakers, and of course to whoever wants to follow my lessons!

E così è nata l’idea di aprire il mio blog, www.learnitalianwithlucrezia.com. Però mancava qualcosa. Una lingua si può imparare attraverso la lettura, sì, ma mancava qualcosa alle mie lezioni. L’audio era la componente fondamentale che mancava ai miei post, infatti era difficile insegnare a pronunciare una parola scrivendola soltanto. Allora ho aperto anche l’omonimo canale YouTube, Learn Italian with Lucrezia, dove tutt’ora posto ogni lunedì una lezione d’italiano molto più completa rispetto a quelle del blog, comprendendo audio e scrittura allo stesso tempo. Diciamo che ora il mio blog si è evoluto a diario attraverso il quale vi racconto le mie giornate o quello che faccio (sempre in italiano), ma continuo comunque a pubblicare lezioni, magari quelle in cui l’audio non è fondamentale.

And so was born the idea of opening my own blog “www.learnitalianwithlucrezia.com” . However, something was missing. A language can be learned through reading, yes, but something was missing from my lessons. The sound was the key component that was missing from my posts, in fact, it is difficult to teach how to say a word by just writing it. So I started a Youtube channel under the same name “Learn Italian with Lucrezia” where every Monday I post a much more complete lesson than what I can achieve on the blog. It includes audio and writing at the same time. Let’s just say that now my blog has evolved into a diary in which I tell you about my days and what I do (always in Italian) but I continue also to publish lessons on the blog, where perhaps the audio isn’t as crucial.

Mi piace molto mandare avanti il mio canale e soprattutto ricevere il sostegno delle persone che guardano le mie lezioni e che mi scrivono. Mi rendo conto che ormai è diventata una vera e propria responsabilità: qualche mese fa, l’unica volta che non ho potuto caricare un video nel giorno della settimana stabilito (il lunedì), ho ricevuto vari messaggi in cui mi chiedevano se stessi bene o se fosse successo qualcosa!

I really like working on my Youtube Channel and moving to the next level. Above all, I like receiving support and comments from the people who watch my lessons. I realize now that it has become a true and proper responsibility to keep the lessons coming and maintain this relationship with the people who follow me. As a case in point, a couple of months ago, the only time I couldn’t upload a video on my established day (Monday), I received a lot of messages from people asking me if everything was okay and if something had happened to me!

Se avete già avuto la possibilità di dare un’occhiata al mio canale, avrete notato che non seguo un ordine definito per le mie lezioni. Cerco sempre di trattare argomenti che sono interessanti per chi mi guarda e soprattutto cerco sempre di fare video su problemi di grammatica o sul lessico che chi segue le mie lezioni mi chiede di fare. Potrà sembrare che salti di palo in frasca, ma in realtà non è così perché cerco di rispondere alle vostre domande. Diciamo che sono su YouTube per chiarire i vostri dubbi sulla lingua italiana!

If you have already had a chance to look at my channel, you may have noticed that I do not follow a defined order for my lessons. I always try to address topics of interest and am happy to address special requests of my followers. It might seem that I jump around a lot, but in reality, I am doing so only to respond to all your special requests. I am here to be your go-to girl on Youtube to clarify your doubts about the Italian language!

Sembrerà forse strano perché l’italiano è la mia lingua madre, ma prima di registrare una lezione, mi studio l’argomento da trattare per essere sicura al 100% di quello che dico nel video e soprattutto di ciò che v’insegno! Cerco sempre di fare video leggeri e divertenti da seguire, video in cui la conversazione è il tema principale; come ben capirete però, per imparare una lingua straniera è a volte importante dover affrontare qualche punto di grammatica per imparare a costruire frasi di senso compiuto. Altrimenti anche la conversazione andrà a rotoli!

It might seem strange since my native language is Italian, but before recording a lesson, I study the subject in-depth to be 100% sure that what I say in the video is correct. I always try to make my videos interesting, light-hearted and fun to watch, while also sticking to important grammar points. As you know, when learning a foreign language it is important to build sentences that make sense according to grammar rules, otherwise, the conversation will go to hell in a handbasket!
