Sono di nuovo a casa dopo aver passato sette settimane in Italia! Ho avuto una bella dose di Italia e ho trascorso molto tempo nel mio posto felice! Per sentire un po’ delle mie avventure e tutte le novità sul blog e i nuovi Matta “Andiamo in Italia!”small group language programs che sto organizzando per il prossimo anno— state sintonizzati.
I’m home again after spending seven weeks in Italy. I got my Italy fix and loved spending time in my happy place! To hear about some of my adventures and learn recent updates on the blog and the new Matta “Let’s go to Italy!” Small group language programs that I’m organizing for next year – stay tuned.
Eccomi di nuovo! Ancora una volta mi ritrovo davanti al computer, piena di energia con tante nuove idee per viaggiare e imparare in italia. Sono davvero entusiasta di tanti progetti futuri!
I’m back! Once again I find myself in front of the computer, full of energy with loads of new ideas for traveling and learning Italian. I am really excited about so many future plans!

Sono molto felice perché finalmente sia possibile viaggiare di nuovo all’estero. In fatti, quest’autunno, ho passato un soggiorno in Italia FANTASTICO!
I am very happy that it is finally possible to travel abroad again. In fact, this autumn, I had a FANTASTIC stay in Italy!
Nonostante c’erano ancora alcuni ostacoli da saltare prima di poter salire a bordo dell’aereo cioè—fare l’appuntamento per il tampone o Covid test quarantotto ore in anticipo del volo, essere sicura di avere i documenti e la carta con la prova della vaccinazione e indossare la mascherina. Ma dopo aver superato tutto quello e dopo l’atterraggio a Roma, tutto è andato liscio come l’olio!
Although there were still some obstacles to jump before being able to board the plane i.e – make the appointment for the swab or Covid test four-eight hours in advance of the flight, be sure to have the documents and the paper with the proof of vaccination and wear a mask. But after overcoming all that and landing in Rome, everything went “liscio come l’olio!”

And really everything went very well in Italy this autumn.
All’inizio, sono andata ad Arezzo dove ho alloggiato nel bel appartamento di Enza, una delle mie insegnanti di Homestay nel centro storico, vicino a Piazza Guido Monaco. Dalla terrazza del “garden apartment” in cima del palazzo, con bei fiori, e comodi mobile da giardino mi sono goduta una vista fantastica della città. Ho praticamente vissuto sulla terrazza. Non sto scherzando!
At first, I went to Arezzo where I stayed in the beautiful apartment of Enza, one of my Homestay teachers in the historic center, near Piazza Guido Monaco. From the terrace of the “garden apartment” at the top of the building, with beautiful flowers, and comfortable garden furniture, I enjoyed a fantastic view of the city. I practically lived on the terrace. I’m not kidding!
Ogni mattina ho fatto yoga sulla terrazza e ogni sera ho bevuto un bicchiere di vino mentre ho ammirato le luci che illuminano il centro storico e il duomo. Una volta, dopo la pioggia ho anche visto un arcobaleno sopra il duomo. Che magia!
Every morning I did yoga on the terrace and every evening I drank a glass of wine as I admired the lights that illuminate the old town and the cathedral. Once, after the rain, I also saw a rainbow above the cathedral. Magical!

Ad Arezzo, sono uscita con gli amici che abitano lì e ho anche assistito alla giostra che dopo una pausa di due anni è tornata ancora una volta in Piazza Grande. Che spettacolo!
In Arezzo, I went out with friends who live there and I also witnessed the carousel which, after a two-year break, returned once again to Piazza Grande. What a show!
Dopo la prima settimana in Italia, ho rifatto la valigia e sono salita su un treno per andare a nord a Bergamo per vedere la mia amica Elena. Anche lei ospita studenti e fa i homestay nella Lombardia, piuttosto vicino a Milano. Abbiamo passato un paio di giorni a Bergamo, dove abbiamo fatto le passeggiate nella città alta e poi siamo andate a lago di Como nella macchina di Elena.
After the first week in Italy, I packed my suitcase again and jumped on a train to travel north to Bergamo to see my friend Elena. She also hosts students and hosts homestays in Lombardy, quite close to Milan. We spent a couple of days in Bergamo, where we took walks in the upper town and then went to Lake Como in Elena’s car.
Se fate un Homestay con Elena c’è anche la possibilità di stare alle sue case a Corenno Plinio o a Menaggio. Da Menaggio si può andare in traghetto a Bellagio. Ci vogliono solo quindici minuti o meno. Il lago di Como e le case di Elena sono incantevoli!
If you do a Homestay with Elena, there is also the possibility of staying at her houses in Corenno Plinio or in Menaggio. From Menaggio you can go by ferry to Bellagio. It only takes fifteen minutes or less. Lake Como and Elena’s houses are enchanting!
Dopo la mia visita con Elena è finita, sono andata a Lucca per accogliere le studentesse che si sono iscritte al Matta programma di lingua che ho organizzato con gli amici a Lucca Italian school. Il programma è stato un grande successo e non posso essere più contenta.
After my visit with Elena ended, I went to Lucca to welcome the students who enrolled in the Matta language program that I organized with friends at Lucca Italian school. The program was a great success and I couldn’t be happier.
Ce l’abbiamo fatta! / We did it!
Nonostante le difficoltà del viaggio quest’anno, tre donne forti si sono unite a me nella bellissima città di Lucca per immergersi nella lingua e nella cultura. Venivano dall’Inghilterra e dall’America. Abbiamo fatto tante belle cose insieme…una degustazione di vino, un’escursione a Volterra, e una gita a Lerici vicino alle cinque terre. Durante la nostra settimana insieme, abbiamo visitato le botteghe di un artigiano che fa i violini e uno che lavora con alabastro.
Despite the travel difficulties this year, three strong women joined me in the beautiful city of Lucca to immerse themselves in the language and culture. They came from England and America. We did many beautiful things together … a wine tasting, an excursion to Volterra, and a trip to Lerici near the Cinque Terre. During our week together, we visited the workshops of an artisan who makes violins and one who works with alabaster.
Il programma a Lucca potrebbe essere finito, ma i ricordi del nostro tempo insieme rimangono. Insomma, non vedo l’ora di tornare in Italia l’anno prossimo.
The program in Lucca may be over, but the memories of our time together remain. In short, I can’t wait to go back to Italy next year.

I am happy to announce THREE new Matta “Let’s go to Italy!” study programs for 2022.
Andrò di nuovo ad Arezzo nella primavera, il dodici giugno al ventiquattro giugno. Naturalmente il mio gruppo sarà lì durante la settimana della giostra del saracino e la cena propiziatoria. In oltre frequentare corsi alla scuola Cultura Italiana ci saranno gite a Cortona, Castiglione del Lago, la Fattoria la Vialla e Stia. Ci saranno lezioni di cucina e l’arte, e una degustazione di vino alla bellissima azienda vinicola Pomaio nelle colline fuori città!
I will go to Arezzo again in the spring, from June 12th to June 24th. Of course, my group will be there during the week of the Saracen joust and the neighborhood celebratory dinner held in the streets the night before the competition. In addition to attending courses at the Italian Culture school there will be trips to Cortona, Castiglione del Lago, the Fattoria la Vialla and Stia. There will be cooking and art lessons, and a wine tasting at the beautiful Pomaio winery in the hills outside the city!
Poi alla fine dell’estate, tornerò a Lucca ancora una volta. Il programma autunnale lì comincia il venticinque Agosto fino al tre settembre. Le gite e le attività di quest’anno sono stati così divertenti, ho intenzione di ripeterle. In oltre al corso al Lucca Italian School, faremo escursione a Volterra, e Villa Reale, il palazzo costruito dalla Elisa Bonaparte! Ci saranno cene con gli insegnanti della scuola e lezioni di cucina.
Then at the end of the summer, I will return to Lucca once again. The fall program there begins on the 25th of August until the 3rd of September. The trips and activities this year have been so fun, I intend to repeat them. In addition to the course at the Lucca Italian School, we will make an excursion to Volterra, and Villa Reale, the palace built by Elisa Bonaparte! There will be dinners with the school teachers and cooking lessons.

È adesso sono molto emozionata di annunciare un nuovo programma linguistico in una parte d’Italia completamente nuova per me Ascoli Piceno nelle Marche!
I am now very excited to announce a new language program in a completely new part of Italy for me Ascoli Piceno in the Marche!
Quest’anno sono andata ad Ascoli per la prima volta per incontrare la direttrice e gli insegnanti della Accademia Internazionale. Subito mi sono innamorata della città e la scuola. Quindi ho deciso di collaborare con l’Accademia ad Ascoli per offrire una nuova “Matta” opzione di studio in Italia.
This year I went to Ascoli for the first time to meet the director and teachers of the International Academy. I immediately fell in love with the city and the school. So I decided to collaborate with the Academy in Ascoli to offer a new “Matta” study option in Italy.
Il programma ad Ascoli inizia il undici settembre e finisce il ventitré settembre. I momenti salienti del programma “Matta” Ascoli Duemila ventidue includono escursioni nella città di Offida per visitare la chiesa romanica di Santa Maria della Rocca e assistere a una dimostrazione di tombolo. The program in Ascoli starts on 11th September and ends on 23rd September. Highlights of the “Matta” Ascoli Two Thousand Twenty-Two program include excursions to the town of Offida to visit the Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Rocca and attend a tombolo demonstration. There will be two cooking classes — one for making pizza — and a trip to the beach in San Benedetto del Tronto—a very charming beach town on the Adriatic sea.
Ascoli è anche famosa per un festival di giostra conosciuto come “la Quintana.” E anche se non saremo lì per l’evento vero e proprio, ricreeremo per voi la fanfara del festival! ll nostro festival Quintana culminerà con una cena rinascimentale completa di musica, costumi, sbandieratori e balli.
Ascoli is also famous for a jousting festival known as “la Quintana” and even if we will not be there for the actual event, we will recreate the fanfare of the festival for you! Our Quintana festival will culminate with a Renaissance dinner complete with music, costumes, flag-wavers, and dancing.
Durante il soggiorno ad Ascoli, ci sarà tutto il tempo per fare passeggiate, fare conversazione, gustare un caffè o uno spritz e provare le famose olive all’ascolane nelle magnifiche piazze fatte di marmo travertino. Bellissimo, no?
During your stay in Ascoli, there will be plenty of time to go for walks, chat, enjoy a coffee or a spritz, and try the famous Ascoli-style olives, magnificent squares made of travertine marble. Great, right?
