L’estate è finita e l’autunno bussa alla nostra porta! Le foglie stanno cambiando colore e stanno per cadere dagli alberi. In questo periodo dell’anno si comincia a pensare alla scuola. Pensiamo che dovremmo riaprire i libri di grammatica per rispolverare le nostre conoscenze linguistiche. Per molti di voi però, a volte trovare una vera scuola costruita di mattoni e malta è un po’ difficile. Forse vivete in campagna ed è difficile trovare un insegnante o altre persone che condividono la vostra stessa passione.
Fall is here! Leaves are changing colors and falling from the trees. It’s that time of year when we start thinking about school and hitting the grammar books once again to brush up on our language skills. For many of you, however, sometimes finding a brick-and-mortar school is a bit difficult. Perhaps you live out in the country and it is hard to find an Italian language teacher or others who share your passion for learning the language.

Durante i preparativi di questa sfida, ho contatto alcuni insegnanti di iTalki. Gli ho chiesto delle loro esperienze d’insegnamento attraverso il sito. Ho scoperto che gli insegnanti con cui ho parlato, sono molto entusiaste e sono molto contente con i loro studenti e la piattaforma di apprendimento del sito.
In preparation for this challenge, last week I got in touch with several of the Italian iTalki instructors. I asked them about their teaching experiences through the iTalki site. I discovered the teachers with whom I spoke, are quite enthused about their students and enjoy the the iTalki language learning platform.
Ho cominciato chiacchierando con Francesca Mazza, che vive a Lucca. Ho conosciuto Francesca attraverso il sito diversi anni fa, quando mi sono iscritta in una delle sue lezioni di storia dell’arte. Ho apprezzato molto il suo stile di insegnamento. È molto facile parlare con Francesca. Durante un recente soggiorno a Lucca ci siamo incontrate per prendere un caffè e abbiamo approfondito la nostra amicizia.
I started the week began chatting with Francesca Mazza who lives in Lucca. I first met Francesca through the iTalki site several years ago when I enrolled in one of her online Italian Art History lessons. I enjoyed her teaching style and she is very easy to talk to. During my recent trip to Lucca, I was delighted to meet Francesca for coffee in person and deepen our friendship!
Poi ho incontrato Serena. Ci sono nove ore di fuso orario tra la California, dove vivo io e l’Italia dove vive Serena a Padova, ma con il calendario di Italki è facile programmare sessioni con gli insegnanti, nonostante le differenze di tempo. Serena ha una laurea in lingue straniere e parla inglese, francese e russo. È stato bello conoscere Serena e abbiamo parlato di tante cose.
Then I met up with Serena. There are nine hours of the time difference between California where I live and Italy where Serena lives in Padova, but using the Italki calendar it is easy to program sessions with the teachers despite the time differences. Serena has a degree in modern foreign language and speaks English, French and Russian. It was great chatting with Serena and we talked about many things.
Vedete? Non è difficile affatto trovare il tempo per apprendere una nuova lingua. Dopo solo due conversazioni avevo già completato una terza parte della sfida. Era così divertente volevo continuare, quindi ho deciso di incontrare un’altra insegnante, si chiama Silvia e lei vive a Salerno. Ho trovato Silvia molto simpatica ed è stato molto facile parlare con lei. Mi ha rivelato che lavorando all’estero, lei ha scoperto che ama insegnare Italiano agli stranieri. Lei trova il sito di iTalki è facile da usare e un buon modo di fare connessione e per stare in contatto con i suoi studenti.
I was having so much fun connecting with Francesca and Serena, I decided to get in touch with Silvia who lives in Salerno. I found Silvia fund and easy to talk to. She revealed to me that while working abroad she discovered how much she loves teaching Italian to foreigners. The Italki makes it very convenient for her to connect with her students.
Ho concluso la settimana con una bella chiacchierata con Maria Fusco, un insegnante di Napoli. Maria ed io abbiamo parlato di tanti argomenti. Mi ha mandato un articolo da leggere e ne abbiamo discusso a fondo durante la nostra sessione. È stata una conversazione molto divertente e utile perché mi ha aiutato con “l’imperfetto”.
I wrapped up the week with a chat with Maria Fusco, a teacher from Naples. Maria and I chatted about so many topics. She sent me an article to read and we discussed it thoroughly during our session. We had a fun conversation and she also helped me with the imperfect tense.
