L’Italiano Vero — Podcast for those who want the inside scoop on how to communicate like a real Italian

In my daily quest to find new podcasts and material to
keep my Italian language skills refreshed, I recently
came upon “L’Italiano Vero.”

Nasce da un’idea di Massimo Cubelli, (a sinistra sopra) che ha voluto creare un podcast che potesse essere d’aiuto agli studenti di lingua italiana. Ma, a differenza di altri podcast linguistici che si concentrano sulle regole grammaticali, analizzano le frasi e parlano dei tempi, Massimo, noto anche come “Cubo,” voleva che gli ascoltatori di comprendere la sua lingua madre in modo semplice, pratico e divertente.

It is the brainchild of Massimo Cubelli, (on the left above) who wanted to create a podcast that would be helpful to students of the Italian language. But, unlike other language podcasts that focus on grammar rules, dissect sentences, and wax on about tenses, Massimo, also known as “Cubo,” wanted listeners to understand his native language in a simple, practical, and entertaining way.

Attraverso amichevoli conversazioni collaborative con “veri” italiani, lui insieme ai suoi co-conduttori e ospiti, presenta uno sguardo intimo su come gli italiani in realtà comunicano effettivamente. Gli ascoltatori possono apprendere espressioni quotidiane, i modi di dire e esempi come di esprimersi, che per la maggior parte, non si trovano in nessun libro di grammatica.

Through friendly collaborative conversations with “real” Italians, he along with his co-hosts and guests present an intimate look at how Italians actually communicate. Listeners become familiar with everyday expressions, idioms, and ways of expressing things that, for the most part, aren’t found in any grammar book.

Il podcast “L’italiano vero” è in onda da aprile 2019 fino ad oggi. Participando anche sulla trasmissione sono Paolo Ricci e Michela Delprata, oltre a un vasto assortimento di ospiti interessanti. Gli spettacoli durano da venti a quaranta minuti e possono essere trovati sui servizi di podcast come Spotify, Sound Cloud, Apple, etc.)

The “L’italiano Vero” podcast has been on the airwaves since April 2019 and continues through today. The show also features Paolo Ricci and Michela Delprato as well as a wide assortment of interesting guests. The shows last anywhere from twenty to forty minutes and can be found on your favorite podcast services (i.e., Spotify, Sound Cloud, Apple, etc.)

Da due settimane, mentre vado a spasso con il cane, io ascolto il podcast “L’italiano vero.” È un modo perfetto per stare a passo con l’italiano e per preparasi per il prossimo viaggio in Italia.

I’ve been listening in on the group for about two weeks now as I take long walks around my neighborhood. It is a perfect way to keep up Italian language skills and prepare us for our next trip to Italy.

L’italiano “bis” (la canzone)

(In Italian “bis” means a little extra or encore)

Mentre scrivevo questo post su “L’italiano vero,” non ho potuto fare a meno di pensare alla canzone “L’italiano” resa popolare da Toto Cutugno che è stata pubblicata nel 1983. È stata la sua più grande hit internazionale ed è la sua composizione più nota. Attenzione Adriano Celetano… a cui era destinata la canzone, ma che l’ha rifiutata! La canzone è stata dimenticata negli anni ’90 ed è stata riscoperta quando Toto Cutugno l’ha cantato dal vivo in un concerto di beneficenza a Roma per commemorare la vittoria dell’Italia alla Coppa del Mondo FIFA 2006, creando una nuova ondata di popolarità per la canzone.

While writing this post about “L’italiano Vero,” I couldn’t help but think of the song “L’Italiano” popularized by Toto Cutugno that was released in 1983. It was his biggest international hit and is his best-known composition. Take that Adriano Celentano… for whom the song was intended for, but who turned it down! The song was forgotten during the 1990s and was re-discovered when Toto Cutugno performed it live at a charity concert in Rome commemorating Italy’s victory at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, creating a new wave of popularity for this song.
