Italian Friendships: Best motivator to learn a language! Youtube Video

Buon Giorno Tutti! Bentornati sul mio canale. Sono appena tornata dall’Italia dove ho trascorso un mese fantastico in Toscana, Roma e nella Puglia con nuovi e vecchi amici e famiglia.

Welcome back to my channel. I have just returned from Italy where I spent a fantastic month in Tuscany, Rome, and Puglia with new and old friends and family.

Nel mese di giugno mi sono trovata a Lucca con il mio gruppo di Language Learners. Ho passato dodici giorni studiando con loro a Lucca Italian School. Abbiamo frequentato corsi di Italiano nella mattina e poi nei pomeriggi abbiamo scoperto più della città, le sue mura, e la famosa torre Guinigi. Abbiamo mangiato bene …molto bene …e siamo anche andati nelle cinque terre dove abbiamo nuotato nel mare e ci siamo goduti il sole!

In June I found myself in Lucca with my group of Language Learners. I spent twelve days studying with them at Lucca Italian School. We attended Italian classes in the morning and then in the afternoon we explored the city, its walls, and the famous Guinigi tower. We ate well…very well. We also went to the Cinque Terre where we swam in the sea and sunbathed.

Poi dopo il programma, sono andata a Firenze. Mio marito e mio figlio sono venuti a trovarmi lì e abbiamo passato alcuni giorni meravigliosi nella città dei principi Medici! Mio figlio sta imparando italiano e vuole studiare in Italia! È stato molto bello praticare la lingua con lui! Poi siamo andati in treno a Roma dove ho affittato un appartamento in via Babiuino vicino al Palazzo del Popolo e Piazza Spagna. A Roma faceva un caldo pazzesco. Ma abbiamo visto tante tante cose, I musei dei vaticano, il Pantheon di notte, il foro di giorni e abbiamo incontrato tanti tanti amici. Infatti ho cenato due volte con Lucrezia – di Learn Italian with Lucrezia quando ero lì. È sempre un piacere passare bei momenti con lei per chiacchierare e aggiornarci delle nostre attività.

Then after the program, I went to Florence. My husband and son met me there and we spent wonderful days in the city of the Medici princes! My son is also learning Italian and wants to study in Italy. It was great to practice the language with him! Then we went by train to Rome where I rented an apartment in via Babiuino near the Palazzo del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna. In Rome, it was very hot. But we saw many things, the Vatican Museums, the pantheon at night, the forum by day, and we met many many friends. In fact, I had dinner twice with Lucrezia or Learn Italian with Lucrezia when I was there. It is always a pleasure to spend time with her and chat and catch up on our activities.

Poi dopo Roma abbiamo noleggiato una macchina per scendere giù nella Puglia…specificamente Locorotondo. A Locorotondo vicino a Bari, ci siamo incontrati con la famiglia di Francesca la ragazza che abbiamo ospitato per un’anno a casa nostra qui a San Francisco. Locorotondo è un borgo stupendo, così bello sembra una città di una favola, tutto bianco galleggiando sul una collina! Lì abbiamo assistito al matrimonio della sua sorella maggiore. Quando eravamo nella Puglia siamo anche andati a Lecce per trovare i miei amici, Marta, Alberto e Paola, che abitano lì. Con loro abbiamo passato un pomeriggio al mare vicino a Gallipoli e al loro ristorante nella campagna di Lecce.

After Rome we rented a car to go to Puglia…Locorotondo specifically. Locorotondo is near Bari and we met the family of Francesca, the girl we hosted for a year in our home here in San Francisco. Locorotondo is a beautiful village, so incredibly beautiful it seems like a white fairytale city floating on a hill. There we took part in the wedding of her older sister. When we were in Puglia we also went to Lecce to meet friends there, Marta, Alberto and Paola who live there. We spent an afternoon at the beach in Gallipoli and had dinner at their restaurant in the countryside outside of Lecce.

Sono arrivata a casa tardi Lunedì sera. Ieri ho disfatto la valigia e adesso sto facendo il bucato. C’è ne tanto! Ho anche preso i miei cani, erano con una mia amica…lei si prendeva cura di loro durante il mio soggiorno in Italia. I cani, si chiamano Moka e Sinbad sono molto contenti che sia a casa di nuovo con loro. È bello rivederli e coccolarli di nuovo.

I arrived home late Monday evening. Yesterday I unpacked and now I’m doing laundry. There is a lot of it! I also picked up my puppies, they were with friends…she took great care of them during my stay in Italy. The dogs, they are called Sinbad and Moka are very happy that I am back home. It’s nice to see them and cuddle them again.

Dopo un mese in Italia sono contenta di essere a casa di nuovo. Questa mattina mi sono alzata presto. Di solito il fuso d’orario non è un problema per me. Però non è male bere un buon caffè forte per darmi l’energia. Devo ammettere che non potevo resistere comprare una nuova caffettiera in Italia – eccola! non è carina con il manico rosso?

After a month in Italy, I’m glad to be home too. This morning I got up early. Usually jet lag isn’t a problem for me. But still, it’s not a bad idea to drink a good strong cup of coffee to give me a bit of energy. I must admit I couldn’t resist buying a new coffee pot in Italy – here it is! Isn’t it cute with its red handle?

I did so many things and met many new people with whom I’ve made new friendships and met up with so many old friends. This is why I continue to learn and improve my language skills.

Ieri sera prima di andare a letto ho dato uno sguardo ad alcuni messaggi su Facebook ho visto uno in cui un ragazzo si lamentava di perdere l’interessa o il motive per continuare a studiare Italiano. Per mesi lui ha studiato la grammatica e ha imparato nuovo vocabolario. Ma a questo punto sta perdendo il desiderio di continuare con gli studi. Studiando l’italiano per lui è diventato un noioso impegno.

Last night before going to bed I had a look at some posts on Facebook and saw one from a student who is worried that he was losing interest or the motivation to keep learning Italian. For months he has studied grammar and learned new vocab. But at this point he is losing the desire to continue with his studies. Studying Italian for him has become a tedious effort.

Ad un certo punto tutti incontrano un blocco. Quindi volevo solo dirvi che quando lo studio dell’italiano diventa un compito noioso s si perde la motivazione, si deve cambiare quello che sta facendo. Si deve fare una nuova ragione per continuare. Per esempio, si deve trovare un motivo per parlare o un motive per scrivere. Dovreste trovare le persone con cui potete parlare o trovare fun chat group dove potreste partecipare ogni giorno.

At some point, we all encounter a block. So, I just wanted to tell you all that when learning Italian becomes a boring task and you lose motivation, you have to change what you are doing. You must find a new reason to continue. For example you have to create or invent a new reason to talk or a motive to write. You should find a person with whom you can speak or perhaps a group chat room where you can write something every day.

Io penso che fare nuove amicizie con altri studenti che stanno studiando la lingua e con le persone che abitano in Italia sia la più buona ragione per imparare italiano. Quando viaggio la mia vita è sempre arricchita. Non imparare la lingua solo per la grammatica, ma imparare per comunicare con gli altri e fare amicizie. Questa è la motivazione più soddisfacente.

I think that making friends with other students who are studying the language and with people who live in Italy is an excellent motive to learn Italian. When I travel my life is always enriched because I speak the language. Don’t learn the language just for grammar, but learn how to communicate with others and use it to make friends. This is the most satisfying motivator of all!

Voglio aggiungere…sono una donna molto felice e contenta di aver deciso di studiare l’italiano. Attraverso la lingua ho una nuova famiglia e tante tante amici che non avrei mai incontrato se non fosse per imparare questa bella lingua! Che bel modo da vivere! Che belle amicizie! Non posso immaginare la vita senza questi amici. Non posso immaginare la vita senza italiano!

I just want to add…I’m a very happy woman and so glad I decided to study Italian. Through the language, I have a new family and many, many friends who I would never have met if not for learning this beautiful language! What a great way to live! What great friends! I can’t imagine life without these friends.  I can’t imagine life without Italian!
