Meet Alessandra!
Get to know Alessandra who offers a homestay in Livorno. Alessandra is a counselor, counselor trainer, and a qualified English teacher in High School with a qualification for teaching Italian to foreigners. Alessandra has traveled extensively in the United States, staying as a homestay guest with several American families. She knows very well what it is like to live as a student in a foreign country and now wishes to welcome students into her home to help them learn Italian.
Where is Livorno? Livorno is located in Tuscany. It is near the Tuscan Archipelago, a collection of islands including Elba and Capraia. The area’s coastline is the “Costa degli Etruschi” (The Etruscan Coast).
Livorno is an important port for trading and features several watch towers that guard the city. Near Calafuria, the sea contains sponges, shellfish, fish, and a protected red coral reef. The coastline is generally rocky, and the waters around the province of Livorno sometimes host dolphins. The sand of Golfo di Bratti is silver and black due to its high iron concentrations, and the area contains an archaeological park. The Livorno region is also famous all over the world for the production of wines called “Super Tuscans, which can compete with those of Bordeaux in France. A bit south of Livorno, visitors can visit the ancient Etruscan city of Populonia.
Meet Alessandra’s family
Alessandra lives with her partner Raffaele and their two sons, Alberto and Sergio. They love traveling, speaking foreign languages, and entertaining friends.
Raffaele is a fiction story writer, avid reader, and refined cook. He will prepare meals for you, and you can spend time in the kitchen with him practicing Italian and learning new Italian recipes.
Alberto is 18 years old and is in his final year of High School. He’s lively and generous.
Sergio is 20 years old. He studies Information Technology Engineering at Politecnico in Milan.
Your Homestay Accommodations in Livorno
Alessandra’s family lives in Livorno in a three-story house in a central but quiet area without traffic. Their neighborhood is filled with nineteenth-century buildings. The area “preserves” Italian traditions as it also features little food shops, bakeries, a pet food shop, a shoemaker, art workshops, handicraft shops, a carpenter, and a few cafeterias where people have their “colazione” or an “espresso” after lunch’
From Alessandra’s home. you can easily reach the center of town, the port, and the seafront. All these are within walking distance, or you can bike there if you like.
You will be hosted in a room in the attic with a bathroom ensuite during your stay. The room is on the top floor, and a few steps separate it from the rest of the house. There’s a door at the bottom of the steps, so you’ll have privacy. In the room, in addition to the double bed, there is a sofa, a smart TV, and a dimmable window with a mosquito net. The private bathroom has a shower, a bidet, and a window.
Alessandra and Raffaele will prepare breakfast for you, including all the meals. According to the option you choose, we will have most meals together at home or/and some of them at selected or typical restaurants or diners. As you may know, in Tuscany, there’s a huge variety of choices for all palates, ranging from excellent first courses to fish, meat, poultry, top-quality cheeses, and cold meats. Homemade ice cream, of course, is one of the favorite treats that Italians enjoy at all times of the year, not only in Summer!
