Oggi volevo condividere con voi una tipica esperienza di homestay. Questa primavera, Beatrice un’insegnante che vive a Firenze ha ospitato Louise, una studentessa americana. Dopo, mi ha scritto per farmi sapere quanto si sono divertite insieme. Ecco cosa Beatrice aveva detto:
Today I wanted to share with you what a typical homestay experience looks like. This past spring, Beatrice, a homestay teacher in Florence hosted Louise, an American student. Afterwards, Beatrice wrote to let me know how much fun they had together. Here is what she had to say:
Il primo giorno che Louise è arrivata da me, abbiamo iniziato a parlare in italiano e non abbiamo più smesso!! Le ho mostrato il mio appartamentino e poi abbiamo fatto un giro del mio quartiere Le Cure, che le è piaciuto molto (siamo passate anche davanti ad un atelier d’arte che per l’appunto stava facendo un corso di pittura!!). Nell’occasione del tour della mia zona, abbiamo visto i negozi e ripassato un po’ di vocabolario dei tipi di negozi e prodotti! Tutti i giorni abbiamo studiato italiano per 3 ore, ma poi abbiamo dedicato anche del tempo per delle attività extra.
The first day that Louis arrived at my home, we began to speak in Italian and we never stopped!! I showed her around my apartment and then we took a walk in my neighborhood Le Cure, which she loved very much (we passed by an art gallery that was having a painting class!!) During the walking tour of my neighborhood we saw shops and reviewed vocabulary that had to do with the various locals and the things they sold. Every day we studied together for about three hours, but then we always left time for special extra activities.
Louise è una cantante e musicista, quindi una sera ho deciso di portarla ad ascoltare un concerto di Hyden all’aperto davanti a una delle ville dei Medici in campagna, un concerto spettacolare! E siccome anche la villa era bellissima, un giorno siamo andati a visitare un’altra villa medicea poco frequantata dai turisti. Avevamo anche una guida che per un’ora ha accompagnato il nostro piccolo gruppo (fatto solo da italiani!).
Louise is a singer and a musician, therefore one evening I decided to take her to hear a concert of Hyden’s music. It was an open-air concert in front of one of the Medici villas in the nearby countryside. It was a spectacular concert! And since the villa was so beautiful, another day we went to visit another Medici villa less frequented by tourists. We had a guide who for an hour directed our small group and spoke only in Italian.
Ma siccome Louise è anche un’amante della cucina, dopo aver studiato il vocabolario della cucina e delle ricette, abbiamo anche cucinato insieme e mangiato sempre al fresco della terrazza! Abbiamo mangiato fuori un paio di sere e una volta abbiamo fatto una passeggiata verso Fiesole, circondata dagli alberi di ulivo, sembrava di essere in mezzo alla campagna toscana!
And since Luise also enjoys cooking, after we studied kitchen vocabulary and recipes, together we cooked and ate our meals out on my terrace. We ate in small restaurants in my neighborhood as well a couple of evenings and once we walked toward Fiesole, surrounded by olive trees, and it seemed we were in the middle of the Tuscan countryside.
Spero che Louise tornerà presto a trovarmi, dato che ha fatto dei progessi incredibili durante il suo soggiorno, e anche lei ne era molto soddisfatta!
I hope Louise will return soon to visit me, because she made incredible progress during her stay, and she too was very pleased!
