Così oggi voglio parlarvi di un dizionario on-line, molto utile di cui ho appena saputo. Si chiama “Dizy” e riporta un sacco d’informazioni: definizione, frasi di esempio, riferimenti utili, definizioni storiche, sinonimi e contrari, coniugazioni, giochi di parole, foto e molto di più!
On the road to learning Italian, there are many resources…and I am always happy to report any new findings I make, almost every day, to help you with your language learning. So today I want to tell you about a very useful online Italian dictionary I have just become aware of. It is called “Dizy” and provides a wealth of information: definitions, sample sentences, helpful references, historical definitions, synonyms and antonyms, conjugations, word games, pictures, and much much more!

Here is what he told me:
L’idea di base di Dizy è di raccogliere quante più informazioni possibili su ciascuna parola italiana. Anche informazioni che di solito non si trovano su un dizionario, come ad esempio data una parola quali sono quelle che vengono prima in mente associate ad esse.
The basic idea of Dizy is to gather as much information as possible about each word in Italian. Also, information that is usually not found in a normal dictionary, such as dates and word associations, are things that first come to mind about specific words.
I contenuti sono creati sia da una Redazione sia da una comunità di utenti. A volte con un lavoro di insieme. Ad esempio per inserire le voci dei dizionari antichi, la Redazione ha ritagliato una per una le immagini relative alle voci (scannerizzate dai volumi originali) e gli utenti della comunità le trascrivono e le controllano prima di pubblicarle.
The content is created both by editors and by the community of users. It is a collaborative endeavor. For example, the editors take information from ancient dictionaries, scan from original volumes, and the website users transcribe and check the information before it is posted to the site.
Ogni settimana viene organizzato un contest fotografico che ha come tema una singola parola, senza nessuna ulteriore specifica. Per cui i partecipanti possono liberamente interpretare il tema. Le foto candidate sono molto belle, siamo apparsi su diversi quotidiani online dal Corriere all’Ansa.Mmassi.
Every week there is a photo contest that revolves around a single word, without any specific requirements. Participants are free to interpret the word however they wish. The photos that are submitted are all beautiful and we have shared them in several online newspapers including Corriere all’Ansa.Mmassi.
