Bruce Katz is a friend of mine who lives in San Francisco, where I used to live. From the moment I saw his paintings, I became a big fan. I really admire his artistic vision and his painting style. I believe art can speak to anyone who takes the time to observe it carefully… and Bruce’s works speak volumes to me!

L’opera di Bruce che ho scelto di acquistare rappresenta per me molte cose: la storia dell’arte, l’esperienza museale, il mio amore personale per l’arte. Ma soprattutto, cristallizza l’atto di fermarsi davvero ad osservare e apprezzare un’opera. È la sua capacità di rendere straordinario anche il più insignificante degli oggetti che mi affascina: un sandwich al burro di arachidi, una strada affollata, o una sedia solitaria diventano eroi attraverso le sue composizioni audaci, le ombre drammatiche, e i colori vibranti.
The piece of Bruce’s work I chose to acquire represents many things to me: the history of art, the museum experience, and my personal love for art. But above all, it crystallizes the act of truly stopping to observe and appreciate a work of art. It’s his ability to make even the most insignificant objects extraordinary that fascinates me: a peanut butter sandwich, a bustling street, or a lonely chair become heroes through his bold compositions, dramatic shadows, and vibrant colors.

Beauty is all around us if we take the time to really look.
Nei miei romanzi scrivo spesso del processo artistico… Nel mio primo (Dreaming Sophia), parlo di come gli artisti si evolvano, imparino gli uni dagli altri e spingano l’arte verso nuove e fresche direzioni. Nel mio secondo (Waking Isabella), affronto l’idea che nessuno possa determinare la bellezza per un’altra persona… ma, cosa ancora più importante, se si osserva davvero, si può trovare bellezza ovunque—anche in dettagli apparentemente insignificanti, come i graffiti su un muro, la luce che filtra tra le foglie o una pila di libri colorati su una scrivania.
In my novels, I write about the artistic process quite a bit… In my first (Dreaming Sophia), I talk about artists evolving and learning from one another and moving art forward in new and fresh directions. In my second (Waking Isabella), I speak to the idea that no one can determine beauty for another person… but more importantly if one really looks, they will find beauty all around them—even in inconsequential things like graffiti, the light filtering through leaves, or colorful books stacked on a desk.
