Benvenuto 2018 Chatting in the New Year Italian New Year Greetings

Ciao a tutti! Benvenuti sul mio canale! Buon anno nuovo! Abbiamo appena iniziato due mille diciotto. Nuovo anno. Vita nuova. Davanti a noi c’è un fresco inizio. Un nuovo capitolo in attesa di essere scritto. Nuove domande da risolvere e nuove sfide e avventure da abbracciare.

Happy New Year! As they say in Italy: New Year. New life! Ahead of us is a new beginning. A new chapter is waiting to be written. New questions to be resolved and new challenges and adventures to be embraced.

Ho chiamato mia mamma oggi. Lei abita a New Jersey dove fa un freddo pazzesco! In Italiano si dice fa un freddo cane! Povera gente che abita a New York, a Chicago e nel midwest…e in Italia in questo momento. Mi dispiace…davvero! Abitavo a Chicago e conosco bene il freddo profondo che dura da dicembre a marzo.

I called my mom today. She lives in New Jersey and it’s crazy cold there. In Italian, you would say it is cold as a dog. To all the poor people who live in New York, the east coast in Chicago, and the Midwest—I feel for you. I’ve been there. I used to live in Chicago and know very well the deep freeze that lasts from December until March.

Non posso lamentarmi. Qui in California anche se oggi piove, la temperatura non è così male. Infatti da me sembra la primavera. Posso uscire e mi serve solo una giacca leggera. Le feste sono quasi finite. Ci manca solo Epifania—La Befana. Questa settimana dopo capodanno ho dormito come un ghiro…e adesso devo pensare a tornare a lavorare e che farò nel nuovo anno.

I can’t complain. Here in California even though it’s raining today, the temperature is not so bad. In fact, it seems like spring. I can go out wearing only a light jacket. The holidays are almost over. We miss only Epiphany and La Befana. This week after New Year’s I slept like a bear—or as they say in Italian like a door mouse—and now I have to think about going back to work and what I will do in the new year.

Avete passato un buon capodanno? È la vostra abitudine di fare i buoni propositi per l’anno nuovo? Stavo proprio pensando a quello e all’anno scorso. Per me 2017 è stato un anno molto soddisfacente. Ho continuato gli studi della lingua insieme a voi qui sul canale di Youtube, sul blog e con i partecipanti dei miei programmi in Italia.

Did you all have a good New Year’s? Is it your habit to make New Year’s resolutions? I was just thinking about that as well as about last year. For me, 2017 personally was very satisfying. I continued my language learning studies along with all of you here on the Youtube channel, on the blog, and in Italy with my language groups.

Sono anche molto contenta perché l’anno scorso ho scritto un nuovo romanzo intitolato “Waking Isabella.” Questo libro segue “Dreaming Sophia” che è uscito nel 2016 e che è stato ambientato a Firenze. Il nuovo libro è ambientato ad Arezzo e scrivo delle tradizione della città, dell’arte e della giostra. Specificamente si tratta di quadro di Isabella de’ Medici—la principessa del Rinascimento che è stata uccisa da suo marito—e questo quadro che è perso durante la guerra. È una storia di amore e inganno, falsi e capolavori—tutto intrecciato da un bellissimo fantasma toscano.

I’m also very pleased because last year I wrote my second novel called Waking Isabella.” This book follows “Dreaming Sophia” which came out in 2016 and was set in Florence. The new book takes place in the southern Tuscan town of Arezzo and I write of the city’s traditions, art and joust. Specifically, the story is about a painting of Isabella de’ Medici—the Renaissance princess that was murdered by her husband—that is lost during World War II. It is a story of love and deceit, forgeries and masterpieces—all held together by the allure of a beautiful Tuscan ghost.

What are my plans for this coming new year?

Non vedo l’ora di tornare in Italia nel 2018 con i miei gruppi e per viaggiare e vivere lì. Ci sarò a giugno per un nuovo programma con Silvia Celli della scuola il Sasso a Montepulciano e a settembre con Paola Testi della scuola Cultura Italiana ad Arezzo. Mi piacerebbe avervi con me. Ci sono più dettagli sul sito Studentessa Matta.

I can’t wait to return to Italy in 2018 with my groups and travel and live there. I will be there in June for a new program I am organizing with Silvia Celli of il Sasso School in Montepulciano and again in September with Paola Testi of Cultura Italiana in Arezzo. Tornerò anche ad Arezzo quest’anno per vedere la giostra notturna… e sto per cominciare il terzo romanzo…Sono sempre contenta di avere bei progetti. Non c’è mai un momento noioso quando ti fai qualcosa che ti piace. La cosa più importante…continuo a migliorare il mio Italiano.

I will also be returning to Arezzo this year in June to see the evening joust… and I’m about to start the third book…I am always happy to have lots of projects. There is never a dull moment when you are doing things you love. The most important thing…I will continue to work on my Italian and look forward to meeting interesting folks along the way.
