Ciao a tutti! Come state? Oggi vorrei parlarvi della città in cui mi trovo quando non sono in Italia!
Hi everyone! How are you? Today I would like to tell you about the city I am in when I am not in Italy!
Alla fine di 2019, dopo vent’anni vivere in California, mi sono trasferita in Texas ad Austin. Prima ho vissuto vicino a San Francisco – proprio dall’altra parte della baia della città famosa. Però adesso mi trovo bene qui in Texas. Vivo nel mezzo del Paese e adesso c’è una differenza di sette ore di fuso tra me e l’Italia (invece di nove). Quindi mi sento più vicino ad Italia!
At the end of two 2019, after twenty years living in California, I moved to Texas in Austin. Before, I lived near San Francisco – just across the bay from the famous city. But now I’m happy here in Texas. I live in the middle of the country and now there is a seven-hour time difference between me and Italy (instead of nine). So I feel closer to Italy.

Here I am in Texas! I am a new citizen of Austin, the state capital.
Recentemente, una mia amica Italiana di Montepulciano mi ha chiesto di parlarle della mia nuova città e di descrivere alcune delle cose divertenti da fare qui. Pensavo che a tutti voi sarebbe anche piaciuto saperne di più su Austin.
Recently, an Italian friend of mine from Montepulciano asked me to tell her about my new city and describe some of the fun things to do here. I thought you all would also like to know more about Austin.
Bene! Allora cominciamo! / Great! So… let’s begin!
Si dice che Austin… è a Texas… come Berlin è a Germania. Come…? Posso sentirvi dire? Davvero!?!? In che senso?
It is said that Austin … is to Texas … as Berlin is to Germany. What…? I can hear you say? Really!?!? What do you mean?
Li Austiniti (il nome per le persone che abitano ad Austin) sono praticamente tutto ciò che il resto del Texas disprezza; con orgoglio, provocatoriamente, loro assomigliano perversamente poco al resto dello stato. Per la maggior parte, le persone che vivono qui sono politicamente liberali e socialmente diversificati.
The Austinites (the name for the people who live in Austin) are pretty much everything the rest of Texas despises; they proudly, defiantly, and perversely bear little resemblance to the rest of the state. For the most part, the people living here are politically liberal and socially diverse.
La gente qui è ossessionata dalle ultime mode gastronomiche, stravagante moda vintage, gioielli riciclati, e apprezza comunità e shopping locale. È una città culturale. Dappertutto la città c’è graffiti artistici e anche bei musei.
People here are obsessed with the latest food fashions, extravagant vintage fashion, recycled jewelry, and appreciate community and local shopping. It is a cultural city. All over the city, there is artistic graffiti and also many museums.
Abbastanza fantastico, eh?
Inoltre all’arte, Austin ha la reputazione di essere la capitale Mondiale della musica. In ogni locale, bar, ristorante e trattoria, c’è musica live. Ogni occasione è una ragione di festeggiare la musica. Anche nel Aeroporto di Austin ci sono sei palchi in cui i band possono suonare sia in arrive che in partenza. Ogni estate ci sono i music festival.
In addition to art, Austin has a reputation for being the world capital of music. In every club, bar, restaurant, and trattoria, there is live music. Every occasion is a reason to celebrate music. There are also six music stages at Austin Airport where bands can play for those arriving AND departing. There are music festivals every summer!
Ad Austin ci sono tanti ristoranti buoni che offrono diversi tipi di cibo per ogni gusto. Per esempio potete godervi carni affumicate, Tex Mex, cibo messicano, barbeque, e anche sushi.
There are many good restaurants in Austin offering different types of food for every taste. For example, you can enjoy smoked meats, Tex Mex, Mexican food, barbeque, and even sushi.
Dove vivo io fuori la città in campagna (trenta minuti in macchina dal centro) c’è il Lago Travis ed è possible fare gli sport acquatici, andare in barca e in Kayak. Si possono anche fare escursioni a piedi e potete andare a cavallo.
Where I live outside the city in the countryside (thirty minutes by car from the center) is Lake Travis and it is possible to do water sports, boating, and kayaking. You can also go hiking and horseback riding.
Un’altra cosa sorprendente, ovest di me vicino a la città di Fredricksburg, ci sono un sacco di cantine cheoffrono buoni vini.
Another surprising thing, west of me near the city of Fredricksburg, there are a lot of wineries offering good wines.
Incredibile no?
Chi poteva immaginare ci sarebbe qui in Texas come in Italia una strada del vino in cui ci sono più di cinquanta aziende vinicole. C’è ne anche una che dice che ha iniziato la coltivazione delle uve con i viti da Montepulciano!
Who could have imagined here in Texas as in Italy there would be a wine road where you can find more than fifty wineries. There is also one that says that he started growing grapes with Montepulciano vines!
Qualche volta vivere vicino ad Austin è come vivere in Italia! Quasi.
Sometimes living near Austin is like living in Italy! Almost.
Veramente è bello vivere qui nelle colline di Texas fuori la città di Austin. Con tutti i suoi divertimenti non mi mancano nulla. È bello… sì… ma nonostante questo… non vedo l’ora di tornare in Italia!
It’s really nice to live here in the Texas hills outside the city of Austin. With all its entertainment, I lack nothing. It’s nice … yes … but despite this … I can’t wait to go back to Italy!
