Life is beautiful in Arezzo! It is the setting of Roberto Benigni’s Oscar-winning film Life is Beautiful. It is also the scene of la Studentessa Matta’s Language Immersion Programs.
Ecco le suggestive parole di Guido Orefice, il personaggio interpretato da Roberto Benigni nel film “La vita è bella”, quando la bellissima Dora cade dalla piccionaia tra le sue braccia dopo essere stata punta da una vespa:

Il film di Benigni ha messo in luce non solo una bella storia suggestiva di un’amore strappato da una realtà dura della guerra e pregiudizi, ma sottolinea anche la bellezza di Arezzo e la splendida campagna toscana circostante Arezzo. In questa parte della toscana si tramandano le antiche tradizioni toscane da una generazione ad un altra, ed è questo senso di di eterno che rende Arezzo una paesaggio perfetto per la favola di Benigni.
Benigni’s film has highlighted not only a beautiful and evocative love story torn apart by harsh realities of war and prejudice, but it also emphasizes the beauty of Arezzo and the beautiful Tuscan country surrounding Arezzo. In this part of Tuscany, the ancient Tuscan traditions are handed down from one generation to another, and it is this sense of timelessness that makes Arezzo a perfect backdrop for Benigni’s fable.

Il luogo più suggestivo di Arezzo è la piazza grande, anche chiamato la piazza Giorgio Vasari, dove si può godere un panorama incantevole, prendere un caffè o un bicchiere di vino ammirando gli edifici principali della città: il palazzo del tribunale, il palazzo della fraternità dei laici e il palazzo della loggia. Quest’ultimo è stato progettato da Giorgio Vasari. In via dei Pillay si trova palazzo pretorio e presumibilmente, la casa natale di Francesco Petrarca. Qui gli artisti famosi hanno anche lavorato: Cimabue, Piero della Francesca, Andrea della Robbia and Giorgio Vasari
The most impressive place in Arezzo is the Piazza Grande also called piazza Giorgio Vasari, where one can enjoy a lovely view, drink a coffee or glass of wine while taking in the main buildings of the town: the Palazzo del Tribunale, the elegant Palazzo della Fraternità dei Laici and Palazzo della Loggia palaces. The latter was designed by Giorgio Vasari. In Via dei Pillay there is Palazzo Pretorio and, supposedly, the native house of Petrarch. Here famous artists have also worked: Cimabue, Piero della Francesca, Andrea della Robbia, and Giorgio Vasari.
