Oggi voglio parlarvi della Fiera Antiquaria che ha luogo ad Arezzo ogni primo weekend – il fine settimana – del mese. L’anno scorso quando ero ad Arezzo nel mese di settembre, ho avuto modo di assistere alla fiera. È una delle più antiche e più grandi fiere in tutta Italia con oltre quattrocento espositori, provenienti da ogni parte del paese.
Today I want to talk about the Antiques Fair that happens in Arezzo every first weekend of the month. Last year when I was in Arezzo in September, I got to experience it for myself. It is quite an event and is one of the oldest and largest fairs in Italy with over 400 exhibitors, who come from all over Italy.
Alla fiera si può trovare di tutto e di più, dalle cose della nonna…per esempio argenteria, gioielli e dipinti alle cose del nonno…Vespa originale, strumenti arrugginiti e telefoni con connessione analogica. Non c’è fine a quello che si potrebbe trovare al mercatino: mobili, cianfrusaglie, orologi, lampadari, giocatoli, tappeti, persino filatoi. Se tenete gli occhi bene aperti, siete sicuri di individuare un tesoro unico. Se siete fortunati, quello che troverete andrà facilmente nella valigia per tornare a casa con voi.
At the fair, you can find everything and anything, from grandma’s silver settings, jewelry, and paintings to grandpa’s original Vespa rusty tool collection and dial-up phone. There is no end to what you might find in the market. Furniture, bric-a-brac, clocks, chandeliers, toys, carpets, even spinning wheels. If you keep your eyes open, you are sure to spot a unique treasure. If you are lucky, enough it might even fit in your suitcase!
Di solito, il mercato si svolge in Piazza Grande, nel centro storico di Arezzo. La sezione principale della fiera si trova sotto le logge Vasari. Tuttavia quando sono stata lì a settembre la piazza Grande non era stata disponibile perchè c’era l’evento della giostra che ricade due volte l’anno nei mesi di giugno e settembre. Durante il periodo della giostra, la fiera si svolge nel parco accanto al Duomo nella città alta nei pressi del Belvedere.
Usually, the market takes place in the Piazza Grande in the center of historical Arezzo. The main section of the fair is located under the Logge Vasari. When I was there in September however, the Piazza Grande was set up for the Giostra – Arezzo’s jousting festival that happens twice a year in June and September. During the Giostra weekends, the fair is held in the park next to the Duomo at the very top of Arezzo near the Belvedere.

Le origine della fiera risalgono al mille nove cento sessantotto. È stata l’idea del famoso collezionista e antiquario Ivan Bruschi. D’allora la Fiera Antiquaria ha continuato a crescere, sia in dimensioni che in popolarità. L’ultimo desiderio di Ivan Bruschi era quello di stabilire una fondazione con lo scopo di diffondere l’amore per l’arte e la culture antica. Oggi la Fiera è una realtà grazie alla collezione preziosa lasciata da Bruschi alla città di Arezzo. Quando vi troverete a Arezzo sarà possibile visitare la casa di Bruschi, che risale al tredicesimo secolo. Ora è un museo e potete vedere la sua bella collezione d’arte, oggetti e mobili.
Originally the fair was started back in 1968 by the famous collector and antiquarian Ivan Bruschi. Since the then antique market has just kept on growing, both in size and popularity. The last wish of Ivan Bruschi was to establish a foundation with the aim of spreading a love for art and antique culture. Today the Fair is a reality thanks to the precious collection left by Bruschi to the city of Arezzo. When you are in Arezzo, you can also visit Bruschi’s home, which dates back to the 13th century, now a museum to view his lovely collection of art, objects, and furniture.
Vagando per la fiera antiquaria di Arezzo, ero fortemente tentata nel comprarmi qualcosa. Ma sono stata molto brava e ho resistito alla tentazione di tirare fuori il portafoglio. Cioè fino a quando stavo per uscire ho tenuto d’occhio un tavolo con dei gioielli antichi. Alla fine, quando ho visto un anello antico, che costava veramente poco, ho ceduto al fascino della Fiera Antiquaria di Arezzo. Beh, almeno potevo infilarlo nella valigia senza nessun problema!
Wandering through Arezzo’s Antiques Fair, I was sorely tempted many times to make a purchase. But I was good and refrained from pulling out my wallet. That is until the very end when I spied a table with antique jewelry. I finally succumbed to the allure of Arezzo’s antique fair when I saw a stunning but not that expensive antique ring. Well, at least I could fit my purchase into my suitcase!
