Non è troppo tardi per essere un volontario di AFS! Abbiamo bisogno di voi! Ogni agosto studenti provenienti da ogni angolo del mondo intraprendono un’avventura per vivere con una famiglia ospitante in un paese straniero, per conoscere una nuova cultura e per frequentare la scuola superiore locale. Questi studenti intrepidi sono anche ambasciatori del proprio paese d’origine. Tre anni fa, la mia famiglia ha partecipato nel programma di AFS e abbiamo accolto una giovane ragazza d’Italia nella nostra casa. Abbiamo avuto una bell’esperienza e dopo l’anno scolastico si è conclusa la mia famiglia è andata in Italia per visitare la sua famiglia.
It isn’t too late to be an AFS volunteer! We need you! Every August students from every corner of the world set out on an adventure to live with a host family in a foreign country, to learn about a new culture, and to attend the local high school. These intrepid students also act as ambassadors of their home countries. Three years ago, my family participated in the AFS program and we welcomed a young girl from Italia into our home. We had a wonderful experience and after the school year ended my family traveled to Italy to visit the family of our Italian daughter.
Alcuni giorni fa ho ricevuto un messaggio da AFS chiedendomi di comunicare l’urgenza di trovare più volontari per ospitare studenti. Sembra che quest’anno, per qualsiasi ragione, ci sia una carenza delle famiglie americane per ospitare gli studenti. Se AFS non riesce a trovare famiglie ospitanti, i ragazzi non possono andare negli stati uniti. Qui a San Francisco, dove abito io, ci sono ancora ragazzi di Cile, Germania, Francia e Italia che hanno bisogno di collocamenti. Se non abitate vicino a San Francisco ma volete partecipare, AFS mette gli studenti in ogni stato negli stati uniti e il vostro aiuto sarebbe ancora ben apprezzato. Se avete interesse, è possibile contattare AFS direttamente per sapere più del programma e come potete diventare un volontario di AFS.
A couple of days ago I received a message from AFS asking me to communicate the urgency of finding more volunteers to host students. It seems that this year, for whatever reason there is a shortage of American host families. If AFS can’t find host families, the kids can’t come to the U.S. Here in San Francisco where I live, there are still students from Chile, Germany, France, and Italy that need home placements. If you don’t live near San Francisco, but still want to get involved AFS places students in every state in the U.S. and your help would still be much appreciated. If you are interested you can contact AFS directly to find out about the program and how you can become an AFS volunteer.
Negli ultimi giorni sono felice d’avere aiutato AFS trovare una famiglia per una ragazza italiana nella mia città. Allora…quest’anno invece d’ospitare uno studente, io sarò la intermediaria per lo studente per sentirsi a casa in America e per aiutare la famiglia americana nel caso che c’è un problema con comunicazione. Ci sono tanti modi per aiutare il programma di AFS. Mi raccomando! Provatecelo! È un’esperienza indimenticabile che può cambiare le vite!
In the past couple of days, I am happy to have helped AFS find a family for one of the Italian girls in my city. So, this year instead of hosting a student I will be the liaison for the student to help the exchange student feel at home in America and to help the American family if problems arise. There are many ways to volunteer in the AFS organization. I fully recommend getting involved. Try it! It is an unforgettable experience that can change lives.
