Let’s look at two Italian words that you hear a lot… but at times can be confusing to get the hang of.
Addirittura
Nientepopodimeno
A tutti gli effetti, sia addirittura che nientepopodimeno possono essere usati in modo intercambiabile.
For all intents and purposes both addirittura and nientepopodimeno can be used interchangeably.

that you should be aware of.
1. addirittura can mean “even” (persino, perfino, anche, allora and mi raccomando)
Here are some examples
when addirittura means “even.”

I might even begin to suspect you of some motive in your advances.
Le è piaciuta così tanto quella maglietta che alla fine ne ha comprate addirittura tre!

2. Addirittura può essere utilizzato anche
per aggiungere enfasi o sorpresa.

to add emphasis or surprise.

when addirittura espresses disbelief.
Sono andato a Roma la settimana scorsa. / I went to Rome last week.
Addirittura? / Really?
Hai mangiato un’antipasto, un primo, un secondo, un contorno, e anche un dolce?! Addirittura!
You ate an appetizer, a first course, a second course, a side dish, and a dessert!? Seriously?!’
– Sono arrivata prima. / I arrived first.
– Addirittura! / No way!
Addirittura can also be substituted with: nientepopodimeno which is also an
expression of surprise or stupor—similar in
meaning as the English expression of surprise or disbelief… “Seriously?” or “Really?”
Where does the word nientepopodimeno come from?
Nientepopodimeno costituisce la forma univerbata della locuzione niente po’ po’ di meno, che ha il significato di ‘addirittura’ e può essere usata assolutamente come semplice esclamazione. Mario Riva, un attore romano, che alla fine degli anni Cinquanta presentava un programma televisivo “Il Musichiere. Mario usava la formula niente po’ po’ di meno (che) per presentare ospiti di particolare prestigio.
Nientepopodimeno constitutes the phrase “niente po’ po’ di meno” which has the meaning of surprise and can be used as a simple exclamation. Mario Riva, a Roman actor, who hosted a musical television program in the late fifties used to say Nientepopodimeno to present prestigious guests.
